Be very careful, when the ice maker malfunctions, many things can be the culprit. The start device on some models of refridgerator for maytag and whirlpool have been recalled. If your appliance was manufactured in the last 5-10 years you may be having an issue with this component. Mine recently caught on fire at this device that is located near the compressor. If you would like to be a part of the petition for a recall on this appliance contact me at email@example.com

SOURCE: ice maker not working
Cause could be the solenoid valve which controls water flow into the ice maker.
Could be bad solenoid, bad relay for solenoid, clogged solenoid valve, corroded electrical connections, etc.
More info? Let me know...

At the back of the ice maker there is a water inlet solenoid valve. This valve gets command from the main board of the unit to open and close. The water fill tube is connected to the valve. When the main board gives command to water inlet valve the valve open and water fills, when the water is filled in the ice maker tray, the valve gets close. But in your case this valve is not getting close so its overfilling and this is making ice and ice dropping in the unit.
------------- Remove this water fill valve and replace it.This will help the water to run properly and stop properly.------Also other thing to check is ice maker shut off arm or shut of switch.Check this switch.
Look for this arm if its up you shouldnt be making ice if its in the down position lift it up it should stop the ice making.------------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.
