We have a mlr 312FX GPS which has intermittant reception, the aerial and it's lead are working but the fault lies in the box.How can we get it repaired?

Sometimes the set works but mostly does not, all under identical circumstances.

Do you live in a an area with plenty of tall buildings/trees around you? Do you live in a valley? GPS units need to "see" plenty of clear sky to work reliably.

Does the problem occur the same whether you're using it in the car or on foot? Many modern cars have solar reflective glass which has a microscopic metal coating and it blocks satnav signals unless a supplementary external satnav antenna is fitted.

If you press and hold the nuvi's signal strength bar on the display for a few seconds you'll get a screen which shows how many satellites the unit is picking up along with a display which tells you how accurately the machine has fixed your position. It won't fix your problem but can help you find out what seems to be wrong.

If you're still having problems and these are not the causes then there's no point in doing anything further: just return it to the vendor for a refund or exchange as they are sometimes faulty straight out of the box.

is it searching for satts or just not going on. searching for satts, refresh online th quick gps fix. for lots of oyher failures try soft reset.

SOURCE: My Raymarine C 120 GPS intermittently stops working.

I had to replace a GPS antenna unit with cable. Sometimes, during bad weather or strong sun, I lost FIX on satellites. Cleaning the top of antenna did not help. Unit from Ebay was also a junk. Get a new one after testing display on a friend boat.

Please try to play any DVD movies to determine if the problem is on the TV or on the cable/aerial connection and reception..

If you play DVD and works fine?
The TV is good but the problem is on the aerial antenna if you are using analog..and if you are using digital cable please double check the connection and cable box..or try to contact your cable provider..

We have had a technika tv for a few months and it was working perfectly. However, we can no longer receive any BBC channels - all of the other digi channels are fine. The set is in one of our guest rooms...

I'm unfamiliar with that precise brand, but if you go into the set-up menu then you should first try to re-install the digital channels from scratch.

If that fails, then the fault is with the transmitter or the reception, not the tv. If you know that the transmission is fine, then check how the tv gets the signal from the aerial. Is the aerial pointing in the correct direction? Are there as few in line splitters and joints as possible in the cable from the aerial to the tv? Have all co-axial connectors been fitted correctly? Digital signals are hundreds of times weaker than the old analogue signals, so it doesn't take much to cause reception problems if your equipment has any faults.

A TV picture freezing is a typical reception problem. I think that there could be a problem with your aerial or set box. Here's what you've got to do:

1. Don't forget that there may be work going on at your local transmitter, or some kind of local interference.

2. Check with the local neighbors or another TV connected to a different aerial in case you are not the only person's aerial affected..

3. If only your TV is affected, the problem is likely to be in your TV, set-top box or aerial. If other TVs are affected, it's more likely to be caused by work at your local transmitter, or possibly the weather.

4. Contact your service provider if nothing happens.

The Navigation system in my 2002 audi S8 is "lost" and does not seem to be getting a lock on any satellites. Any ideas what to check?

Could it be the aerial somewhere ?? i have no idea at all other than the aerial ,i always stop to ask directions or go into the local cafe and have a coffee and ask where is somewhere .But these sort of faults might need the correct dealer software to locate the fault as yes the aerial is the most obvious but it could have a failed tuner reception chip ?'

Hi I have two freeview boxes running from one aerial which split at a boooster box, one tv works fine, it the farthest away from the booster box, but the other has some channels freezing up and stuttering,...


The problem you describe is called "Digital Cliff Edge" and it's caused by signal loss. I wont go into the specifics of that at the moment as it's not going to help solve your problem. I you want more information about DCE, try an internet search.

As you are using the same aerial and booster/splitter for both TVs, you are correct in ruling these out as the cause of the problem. The fault is probably in the co-ax cables or connections but you might have a faulty freeview box. Please run through the following checks to establish the source of the fault.

1. Swap your Freeview Boxes - you shouldn't need to re-scan/tune as they are running off the same aerial..
If the Freeview box from the TV that is working correctly freezes and stutters on the other TV, the fault is probably in the cables or cable connections. Next, try the "faulty" Freeview box on the TV that is working correctly. If you get stuttering sound and freezing/pixellation you probably have a faulty Freeview box. DO NOT SWAP ANY CABLES FOR THIS TEST.

If the problem is the same after swapping the freeview boxes:

2. Swap any non-fixed cables, e.g the co-axial "fly-leads" and scart cables - one at a time. See if the fault "moves" with the swapped cables. "Fly leads" are the short co-ax cables that link the Freeview box to the TV or the TV to a wall mounted aerial socket. If the fault "moves" with the swapped cable, you have identified the source of the fault and should either repair or replace this cable.

Try these tests first and post back with the results. If you haven't identified the source of the fault, I will try to assist you further.

My rogers hd box the picture keeps flickering i've tried to reboot but it does not fix the problem

Have you tried a signal booster, i really do think that will help. Your reception can be to do with a few thing's, i.e. Position of your tv, Faulty receiver on your main (outside) aerial, A breakage or fault with the aerial cable coming from outside aerial to tv, or your outside aerial can just simply have a bad signal.

Fm radio doesn't tune

check that the antenna is plugged into the back of the unit or look under your fender and make sure it is plugged in there as well or use manual search instead of autosearch

Tv-- signal strength normal but signal on all channels "blipping" down intermittently causing freezing of picture. Have replaced aerial with high gain antennae together with aerial cable and...

When ever the picture freezes intermittendly the problem is usually poor connection on the signal line (antenna or connection on tv) or poor reception. Could be the tuner if the tv has one.To eliminate the tuner possibility try anther tv set if possible.
If you still cannot figure out the problem,let me know what kind of set up you have connected to your tv set.
Do you have a satellite or cable box and if you have splitters.
