Go to Power Options --> On the plan you are using select change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> Scroll down till you reach battery and click the + next to it to expand the settings --> Where it says Critical battery level and Critical battery action (on battery) make sure that the level is at 5% and the action is to hibernate. If it's set to do nothing, it will keep running until it's out of battery and completely shut off. Plugging the AC adapter would give it more power. If that isn't the problem, check your battery's connection and consider replacing the battery.

My Acer z5600 just shuts off while I'm doing something without any notice.I gets very hot at the top of the screen and then shuts off without warning. The screen just goes black and I can not turn

Your processor is overheating. Or the fan for the CPU is dead or the way to eject the warm air is blocked. Try to work with your laptop on a table, if the problem persists, is the fan other way you have to work everytime on the table.

New battery in Acer laptop shuts down computer at 44% power ?!?

In the power options at the control panel you can set the battery options there to shut down at a lower percentage. Also within the software for your battery as well. At the task menu lower right hand corner tick the battery settings. John

My Toshiba P35-S611 shuts down without warning a short time (2 min-45 min) after it boots up. The battery isn't hot but the heat dissipation fins in the back are very hot.

Indications of laptop overheating problem:
  1. The keyboard and the bottom of your laptop are very hot when the laptop is working.
  2. The CPU fans are working all the time at maximum rotation speed and operate much louder than before.
  3. The laptop suddenly shuts down by itself without warning. When it just started, the laptop was shutting down after 1-2 hours and how it shuts down after 5-10 minutes of operation.
  4. The laptop works fine when it runs idle, but shuts down as soon as you start using any memory demanding applications (DVD player, image editing software, video editing software, etc.).

Solution:
If the CPU heatsink is not clogged with dust and lint completely, you can use canned air and just blow it inside the laptop through the openings on the bottom and on the sides. It’s nice as a precaution measure, but it might not work if your laptop already has a problem and the heatsink is completely clogged.
  1. Open the laptop case, so you can access the CPU fan and the heatsink. In some cases you can access the heatsink through the latch on the bottom of the laptop. Sometimes (for example Toshiba Satellite A70/A75) you have to open the laptop case all the way down.
  2. Carefully disconnect the fan cables on the system board and remove the fan. If the fan makes unusual sound when it spins (grinding sound), I would recommend to replace the fan.
  3. Clean the fan and the heatsink with compressed air.
  4. I would also recommend removing old thermal grease from the CPU and applying new grease for better heat conductivity.

Dell Laptop shuts off

Take out the battery and only hook up the AC Adapter to the laptop. See if it still shuts off on you at random.

If it still does then try another AC Adapter and if it still shuts down randomly then it might be a motherboard issue.

Take a can of air and blow it into the air vents on your laptop. This will remove any dust or debris that might be affecting air flow.

If that doesn't do it then the only other thing to try would be to take apart the laptop and where the heatsink sits on top of the CPU, take the heatsink off and make sure there is no dirt or dust buildup on it. If there is buildup on there that would cause the laptop to shut down without warning cause that means its not cooling like normal.

At this point if you went thru all of this and you still get shutdowns then the motherboard is bad

Computer shuts down without warning

My first guess is that your laptop is over heating. Even with a fan underneath, if the bottom vent is clogged with dust, the CPU will still get too hot. Does your computer last longer when you run less programs? I would check for dust around the fan inside your laptop. There's a video on youtube showing an acer being disassembled:

Although it may not be your laptop specifically, hopefully it will head you in right direction. It would be a bad idea to blow the dust further back into your computer, so you may have to loosen some screws and buy a electronics duster from an office supply store, but it should solve the problem. I've ran into this a lot over the years, specifically with Acer and Dell computers. Hope this helps!
