Yes you can. The transfer speed will be at the USB 3.0's standard. Also keep in mind that an SSD will have a significantly faster transfer speed compared to a HDD. However, answering your question, if you buy a 3.0 enclosure and put a HDD in with the same SATA connection as the enclosure it will have the 3.0 interface! :) Hope this helps.
