Question about Air Tools & Compressors

Pneumatic stapler trigger stuck

I have a rigid (home depot house brand) pneumatic stapler that has been used all of 5 times since purchased. I went to use it yesterday, hooked it up to my compressor, lined the stapler up with the material, pulled the trigger and instead of a nice pfffft of air and a staple being imbedded 2" into the wood where moments ago wasn't the trigger simply Clicked, it wasn't a dead trigger feeling like you get when pulling the trigger without an air connection, it like I said Clicked, you could feel the air pressure when pulling the trigger just none was released when the trigger pin was pushed in. The trigger pin remained in the pushed in position and the trigger itself without the pin pressed against it just flops about. I quickly disconnected the gun from the compressor envisioning an unwanted rapid firing of 2" staples being impaled into any unfortunate objects in their path due to the stuck open trigger even knowing it an improbable occurrence. Any thoughts as to what has happened to this barely used gun? Thanks Les

The click sound indicates that the headvalve opened to fire piston down the barrel, however piston is already down or is stuck in-place. If the piston/driver is not broken or stuck, push piston to top of cylinder to reset. If only one shot and piston stays down, most likely the check band is broken. Check band is on the outside of cylinder (lower part) is is usually an oring or band of rubber covering small holes drilled into cylinder. Check valve /band is what causes the piston to return to top. If check band is good, most likely piston is bent or oring is too tight. If you open the gun, lube all parts with white grease or silicone paste lube. Good luck

Cant open jt27 staple gun to load staples

Hi Maria, I'm sorry you are not having luck with your JT27 stapler. Unfortunately you did not purchase the correct staples for this tool. The JT27 Stapler uses the JT21 staples in a green box. The staples come in 3 different sizes (1/4", 5/16", 3/8"). You can purchase these staples online or at your local Home Depot or Lowe's Store.

As for opening the tool - please see the attached picture for assistance.

What should I do if my brand new Fasco pneumatic upholstery stapler is leaking air through the tail end...not the hose, but the two holes in the handle? Any suggestions?

Hi Anonymus,

What's happened if the driver blade has stopped in mid stroke, the air will escape. Quickest was 'round this is to take the airline off the tool, then find some scrap wood, place the tool on it as though you're firing it, and in THIS ORDER... pull the trigger and re-connect the airline at the same time. This usually sorts this out. Regardless of the tool make and model this will happen to most users sometime....

Stapler trigger stuck

Check for a trigger lock/bar that slides up or down to unlock trigger. If no lock, take a small flathead screw driver and jiggle it in the back of the trigger.

I have a Bostitch SB-150SX pneumatic stapler. It's about 5 yrs old. I've been using it for the last couple of days without any trouble. Then yesterday, it would not shoot. When I pull the trigger air...

Are you using air-tool oil before each use? Water or debris coming through the air hose can cause like problems. Try installing an in-line filter. Hope this helps!

My Makita AT1150A stapler does not shoot any staples. Air comes out around the trigger when pressed but does not do anything else. What do I do to fix this problem?

Check to see if there is any foreign object jamming the striker bar. These units also have a diaphragm that sometimes needs to be replaced. If you do not have an automatic oiler on the line the diaphragm could have cracked allowing air to pass through. The Stapler can not build up the necessary pressure to fire the striker driving in the stapler. Damaged or cracked this will need to be replaced. Not difficult and easy to DIY job. Do NOT hook up to air when doing this service. Dirt and grim can also jam the unit. Clean lightly oil, work the unit and see if it frees up. I typically put a few drops of oil made for pneumatic tools directly into the unit. Each time I pull the pneumatic tools out to use. I do not have an inline oiler. :)
Typically at the Male nipple connection where the brass female connector hooks too. 2-3 drops only!
Hope this helps!

MY PNEUMATIC STAPLE GUN WON'T WORK/ looses air through firing lever. How do I repair it? Where do I put the oil in?

I would agree with rowdy that the make and model number are essential to getting the right parts - If you have that information, just find a dealer that supports your brand. That being said, air leaking out the trigger area is likely to be an O-Ring or Seal problem. Pneumatic staplers have O-rings and Seals that need to be replaced periodically. Most have rebuild kits available that contain all the O-Rings and Seals that need to be replaced. Many staplers have O-rings and/or Seals on or near the trigger shaft that can wear and allow air to leak out
