1972 shovel what type of spark plug can i use other than harley and what is the gap

Best to use Harley plugs

If the plugs require cleaning between tune-ups, proceed by degreasing the firing end of spark plug using ELECTRICAL CONTACT CLEANER and then dry plug with compressed air. THEN using a thin file flatten the spark plug electrodes because a spark plug with sharp edges on its electrodes requires 25-40% less firing voltage than one with rounded edges. If the plugs cannot be cleaned, replace with them with 6R12 spark plugs. Check the electrode gap with a wire-type feeler gauge and bend the outside of the electrode so only a slight drag on the gauge is felt when passing it between the electrodes. Proper gap measurement is 0.038-0.043 in. (0.97-1.09 mm). Check the condition of the cylinder head and plug threads and if necessary remove deposits by applying penetrating oil and clean them out with a thread chaser. Apply a good sensor safe ANTI-SEIZE to the plugs and then install and tighten them to 12-18 ft-lbs (16.3-24.4 Nm).

Tip

Sharpening electrodes when tig welding in DC

Use the smallest tungsten possible, ie 1/16" welds up to 115amps. Hold the tungsten straight up the face of the grinding wheel so the striations go up the tungsten. This encourages the arc to go straight down the electrode thus avoiding arc wonder on lower amperages. It also helps to make the point as long as possible to encourage a finer arc. Happy welding.

2006 crown vic at 45-55mph vehicle is bucking,

When was the last time you had checked the spark plugs? My \'01 Grand Marquis had the same disease, which progressively got worse. Eventually it threw a code for a misfire. Pulled the plugs for a check and the electrodes were horribly eroded.

If you are going to do the job/check yourself, be careful as one bank of plugs is installed at a slight angle. I would also recommend that once you remove the boots, you use a shop vac (or vacuum in general) with a narrow attachment to suck out any debris from the well to avoid it from falling into the cylinder.

Since the new plugs (I also cleaned the boots and electrodes, and used dielectric grease on install) she is smooth as glass.

If the plugs are normal, you could check into the torque converter clutch (TCC), but normally the shaking would continue throughout the drive range and not only kick in at a particular RPM. Suggestion would be to put the car in 1st or 2nd on the gear select, and gradually increase speed until the engine is at about the same RPM as it would be for cruising 45-55 (a scan tool with live read will work to get RPMs). I tried this and got the same buck in 1st gear at about 13-15 mph and again in 2nd at about 25. It is not as herky jerky, but you will feel a little bucking. Another test I did to ensure the problem was in the plugs/ignition was leave the car in park, open the hood, and remove the plastic cover from the top of the engine. Using your hand, gently apply pressure to the throttle body opening it a bit. Before I replaced the plugs the engine was shuddering pretty bad as the engine RPMs increased.

Ignitor keeps sparking on infrared burner. Burner will ignite if i turn on. Sparks when any lower burner is on.

the valve has a tab that connects with another tab when pressed in to close a circuit, cause spark. The wires coming off the module are chained from valve to valve with separate wires running from the valve to the electrode of each. Basic maintenance: make sure connections are tight, if metal is exposed wrap with electrical tape. You're getting a short from one of them jumping off the spade connection. Remove the control panel and just check the wires, clean the tabs and you'll fix this.

Gas in oil in engine

It does not take much oil to damage a car's engine. If it is just a little bit of oil in gasoline tank: As you drive over bumps the fuel pickup will take some oil & burn it along with the gasoline. If you have fuel injection, deposits may form on the fuel injectors which will need to be cleaned to avoid a poor idle or hard starting condition. Deposits may also form on the spark plug electrodes which will need to be cleaned and regapped or replaced if they use dual or quad ground electrodes.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am disassembling a Kenmore stove top gas burner to clean under the stove top. To do so you actually need to unscrew the burners, which I've done, but then I need to unhook the spark electrode, which...

The electrode is held onto the burner head with a screw through the mounting tab. They can get crusted over and it's not always easy to see the screw head, but it's there.

How do i remove the ignitors out of a charmglow grill model number 720 0036 HD 05?

The ignitor electrode(s) are held in place my a small tab that's attached next to each main burner with a small screw. To totally remove the ignitor electrode, disconnect the wire to it first, by pulling the wire's sleeve off the ignitor pin. Then unscrew the holder/tab. There should be no need to replace the wires, if you are just replacing the ignitor electrodes. Be sure to remove the battery from the Ignitor Module, before trying to remove the electrodes.

How do you change plugs and wires 1997 sebring

Spark Plugs A typical spark plug consists of a metal shell surrounding a ceramic insulator. A metal electrode extends downward through the center of the insulator and protrudes a small distance. Located at the end of the plug and attached to the side of the outer metal shell is the side electrode. The side electrode bends in at a 90( angle so that its tip is just past and parallel to the tip of the center electrode. The distance between these two electrodes (measured in thousandths of an inch or hundredths of a millimeter) is called the spark plug gap. The spark plug does not produce a spark but instead provides a gap across which the current can arc. The coil produces anywhere from 20,000 to 50,000 volts (depending on the type and application) which travels through the wires to the spark plugs. The current passes along the center electrode and jumps the gap to the side electrode, and in doing so, ignites the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. Fig. 3: Cross-section of a spark plug tccs1045.gif
Use a Spark Plug socket and 12" extension with a ratchet. Pull the boot of the spark plug wire off with a spark plug wire boot puller available from your local parts or tool store. Unscrew each spark plug and replace the wire by pulling the boots off both ends, one at the spark plug end and the other at the coil pack or distributor cap. Do only one cylinder at a time to avoid confusion. Put the appropriate length spark plug wire from the package on to the coil pack or distributor at one end and screw the new spark plug in and attach the other end of the spark plug wire to the spark plug. If you do it one cylinder at a time, it should be easy. Good luck on this repair.

How to replace sparl plugs on a Jeep Cherokee?

Hello, I hope this info helps...(subytech1)...REMOVAL
In this engine, each individual spark plug is located under each ignition coil.

  1. Prior to removing spark plug, spray compressed air around base ofignition coil at cylinder head. This will help prevent foreign materialfrom entering combustion chamber.
  2. On this engine each individual ignition coil must be removedto gain access to each spark plug. Refer to Ignition CoilRemoval/Installation.
  3. Check condition of coil O-ring and replace as necessary.
  1. Inspect spark plug condition. Refer to Spark Plug Conditions.
CLEANING
Theplugs may be cleaned using commercially available spark plug cleaningequipment. After cleaning, file center electrode flat with a smallpoint file or jewelers file before adjusting gap.

CAUTION: Never use a motorized wire wheel brush to clean sparkplugs. Metallic deposits will remain on spark plug insulator and willcause plug misfire.

ADJUSTMENT

Setting Spark Plug Gap - Typical
Check spark plug gap with a gap gauge tool. If the gap is not correct, adjust it by bending ground electrode. Never attempt to adjust gap bybending center electrode.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: This engine is equipped with copper core groundelectrode spark plugs. They must be replaced with the same type/numberspark plug as the original. If another spark plug is substituted,pre-ignition will result.

Special care should be taken when installing spark plugs into cylinderhead spark plug wells. Be sure plugs do not drop into plug wells asground straps may be bent resulting in a change in plug gap, orelectrodes can be damaged.

Always tighten spark plugs to specified torque. Over tightening cancause distortion resulting in a change in spark plug gap or a crackedporcelain insulator.

  1. Start spark plug into cylinder head by hand to avoid cross threading.
  2. Tighten spark plugs to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) torque.
  3. Before installing coil(s), check condition of coil O-ring andreplace as necessary. To aid in coil installation, apply silicone tocoil O-ring.
  4. Install ignition coil(s). Refer to Ignition Coil Removal/Installation.
