Question about Husqvarna Viking 1

Open Question

Just bought this Viking 6690 at a yard sale, there is no power cord and I tried sewing parts online, it is no longer available. Any other suggestions?

SOURCE: I have a Viking 6690.

when you say "bobbin tension is loose" do you mean that the thread bunches up under the fabric? If yes, then your UPPER tension is wrong and it's probably not threaded correctly.

SOURCE: my model number 6690 is getting power but will not

The 6690s were plagued with computer failures. Sorry, but most likely it is dead and the repair costs far exceed its value.

SOURCE: Viking 2000 6430? sewing machine, only sews in reverse.

Your stitch length dial is stuck. Your machine is in need of oil. If you open the back of your machine and see the bit that moves when you turn you stitch length dial. oil that bit and warm it with your hair dryer. It should become loose. It take a bit of warming and working the oil into the machine. You have to repeat this process a few times.

I do have the service manual at sewingnz@gmail.com

Viking sewing machine 6690 feed dog are frozen down ...how can I fix this

Hello Mary
The Viking 6690 features a 'Presser Foot Pressure Dial' located on the left side of the sewing machine head. It is probably turned down to the thin end of the wedge or may even be parked on the rectangle ... this will cause the feed dogs to stay down. Turn the dial toward the wider part of the wedge symbol. The feed dogs will come up as the sewing machine makes a stitch.

Please let me know how this works out for you.

Happy stitching.

Hello Mary

There may be various reasons for the feed dogs staying down. Let's start with the most obvious ....

According to this site (although the parts are no longer available), it looks like the same foot control will work on both machines:

How do I find a foot pedal for a Viking Vanessa model 5610 with a power cord?

The part is no longer available from Viking. However, you might be able to buy a used one on ebay or from sewing machine parts. However, you might try contacting some of the Viking stores to determine if they have a used one from a machine they use for parts. You can send me a private email and I'll give you some Viking dealers you can contact. email: deborahcha@aol.com

Need the food pedal for the 1001L serger

The foot control is no longer available through Husqvarna Viking. It is available through aftermarket parts distributors and through online sales.Online, it goes for $50-$60. That is a big investment for something that may or may not work.If you go to a local sewing machine dealer, ask them to research and find one for you, they should not be offended at trying it on your machine to make sure that it works properly and suits your needs. I would expect the foot control to cost $65-$75 at a retail store, but you have the piece of mind that it works before you pay for it. Sometimes every book and parts list says "X" is what you need and you have it in hand before you realize "Y" is the only one that works for your particular model. You may get free shipping online, but make sure that you will also get no restocking fee if you have to return it.

Raise feed dog

I have a different model Viking with a feed dog button to the left of the power button. When it's pressed down, the feed dog stays in the "down" position. Press it again to bring the feed dog up.

I cleaned my Husqvarna Viking 6690 and now it won't zig zag or do any of the "fancy stitches" on any of my cartridges. The size of the straight stitch is also wrong.

I hate to say it, but the 6690 was plagued with circuit board problems. That machine cost Viking a lot of heartache. I'm a bit surprised to see one still working. You didn't specify exactly what you did when cleaning or whether you took the covers off and disturbed the wiring. Check all the connections and plugs, but it might be dead. You can take it to a Viking dealer with experience with the 6690 for an evaluation.
