Question about Computers & Internet
Hi there, I have just purchased an asus eee pc 4g for my daughter for christmas, and I am having big problems connecting the the internet. I am not computer minded at all and have tried several things with no luck! I cannot even get a connection using the ethernet cable. First of all it would find the connection but kept saying "pending". I then put a static IP address in that somebody on here was advised to do and it now says "enabled" for a few seconds and then changes to "link is down". The wireless is definately on and I have reset the router and rebooted the laptop. I have no idea about WEP/WPA, DNS etc etc and different codes! Please can you help, regards Lisa
OK hold on because this is long and sounds more complicated than it will actually be. We are going to delete a line of code so that your operating system isn't requiring a password anymore...
Turn on your Eee PC; as soon as the first screen appears (the one with the “Press F2 to run setup” request) press and hold the F9 key, the Grub main screen will appear. Now, you have 3 options:
You will now be editing the string and you need to replace the portion that says " XANDROSSCAN=y" and instead put "XANDROSBOOTDEBUG=y" press enter and the press "B" to boot single user mode.
You should now be in a command line screen. Type everything you see between the quotes exactly as I put it
"mount /dev/sda2 /mnt-user/" PRESS ENTER
"cd /mnt-user/home/user/" PRESS ENTER
"rm .AsusLauncher/requireLogin" PRESS ENTER
"exit" PRESS ENTER
This should remove the line of code that prompts a log in.

Where you found the "static IP" try using the "auto IP"

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
