CANNOT GET A CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET WITH ASUS EEE PC 4G

Hi there, I have just purchased an asus eee pc 4g for my daughter for christmas, and I am having big problems connecting the the internet. I am not computer minded at all and have tried several things with no luck! I cannot even get a connection using the ethernet cable. First of all it would find the connection but kept saying "pending". I then put a static IP address in that somebody on here was advised to do and it now says "enabled" for a few seconds and then changes to "link is down". The wireless is definately on and I have reset the router and rebooted the laptop. I have no idea about WEP/WPA, DNS etc etc and different codes! Please can you help, regards Lisa

    This doesnt seem to be an option!

    Also, since then I have an even bigger problem! My daughter decided to add a user password to the laptop and obviously mis-spelt it! Now I cannot even get into the computer! Any ideas please?!!!

    Thank you so much. It is the Linux system! Regards Lisa

    Did try what you advised, but unfortunately once I got past changing the "XANDDROSSCAN=y" , pressing enter and then pressing "B", it would not go to the command screen and just kept going into the screen that requests the password again!! However, I didnt even know how to restore the factory settings so I did that instead and am now into the main screen! So, thank you very much for your help! Do you have any ideas on my connection problem by any chance?! Thanks again!

OK hold on because this is long and sounds more complicated than it will actually be. We are going to delete a line of code so that your operating system isn't requiring a password anymore...

Turn on your Eee PC; as soon as the first screen appears (the one with the “Press F2 to run setup” request) press and hold the F9 key, the Grub main screen will appear. Now, you have 3 options:

  1. Normal Boot;
  2. Perform Disk Scan;
  3. Restore Factory Setting
arrow down to option 2 but don't select it, instead press "E". This should bring up a new screen, the 2nd line on that screen should begin with "kernel..." arrow to that line and again press "E".
You will now be editing the string and you need to replace the portion that says " XANDROSSCAN=y" and instead put "XANDROSBOOTDEBUG=y" press enter and the press "B" to boot single user mode.

You should now be in a command line screen. Type everything you see between the quotes exactly as I put it

"mount /dev/sda2 /mnt-user/" PRESS ENTER
"cd /mnt-user/home/user/" PRESS ENTER
"rm .AsusLauncher/requireLogin" PRESS ENTER
"exit" PRESS ENTER

This should remove the line of code that prompts a log in.

Can you connect through a "wired" connection? Is your router connected to the Internet? If you're using wireless encryption, have you told your netbook what that encryption key is?

check your model first, in your bottom case. eeePC 4G. And now you connect to ASUS site for downloading that driver, for you need it.

http://support.asus.com

click DOWNLOAD (right side)

select product (up) = Eee Family
select product (middle) = Eee PC
select product (bottom) = Eee PC 4G Surf/XP
and then click SEARCH....
select for win xp

enjoy it...
