The opener thinks the door can keep going down when there isn't any more to go?

I have a garage door that the drive only goes down. It almost buckled the system when the garage door was down and the drive kept trying to go farther.

Sounds like down travel limit has to be backed off . if this always happened, chain may be out of sync.

My garage door opener has power but it doesn't work, sensors got power too, at times it seams to work but it only goes in one direction

If the GDO will only open the door, it could still be the door sensors. They may be slightly out of alignment, or there may be some spiderwebs or debris blocking the sensors. Readjust them by eye.
An easy way to tell for sure is to close the door, if it does not move or goes part way and reopens (caused by the sensors) the light on the GDO will flash 5 times to let you know the sensors have been activated.
On the older machines, there used to be a plug where the wire connected to the sensor. They would corrode due to dampness/moisture. If it is the older style with the plug, replace the sensors.
Also, if the sensors are to blame for your problem. pushing and holding the wall button will close the door fully.
Good luck.

My garage door will only open a little over 5 feet

Close the door and release the GDO from the door by pulling the release handle. Operate the machine without the door attached. Does the trolley go to the full open position?? If so check the door.
Operate the door manually. If it is very heavy and wants to close the door is out of balance.
If the door doesn't work correctly, the GDO will not work. Regardless of the type of door, it should be easy to open manually. Unballanced doors are dangerous. The counterbalance springs may be broken or just require adjusting. The door jamming or hitting an obstruction is another thing to consider. If the door hits an object going up, it will stop, going down it should reverse.
If the door is good, and the machine runs full cycle without the door attached, reattach the door and adjust the "Up Force" adjustment on the end of the machine with the wiring. With proper operating equipment (door, GDO), it should be no more than 6 O'clock. Any higher than that, and the door likely requires servicing.

Chamberlain chain gdo. goes all the way up until it hits gdo box and gets stuck. unstick it and it works for awhile then it happens again

Unstick it and close the door. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Should be good to go.

My older Craftsman garage door opener comes down about 6" & then goes back up. I just replaced all the rollers o& the opener worked fine. Then I tightened the chain on the opener & it worked ok...

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door goes back up it is a door sensor problem. You chain should sag just a little. If you tighten it too much it will click as it goes over the sprocket. You can increase the down force which is an adjustment near where all those white wires go. A 1/4 turn should be enough. Release the door from the opener and operate it by hand. It should move freely and when you have the door approximately waist high it should stay put. Neither raising nor closing.

Craftsman GDO - Remotes not working

I think this is an easier way to program. Press and hold the button on the remote and then press and immediately release the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit. Do this for each remote you have.

Lift-Master GDO goes up, not down

If the door operates freely without any binding, while operating it manually then It would appear that the obstruction sensor mounted across the doors path is ether out of alignment, lens dirty,or malfunctioning
