Question about GE Profile Spacemaker Over-the-Range Microwave

Open Question

Vent boost light buttons broken

The vent, boost, and light buttons have pushed into the microwave and no longer work. How do I remove the faceplate and switch?

I was able to remove the faceplate today by using a small screwdriver. If you look underneath the switches, there are two thin metal strips that wrap around to keep the faceplate on. By inserting the small metal screwdriver, you can bend the strips so that the lower part of the faceplate detaches. To remove the upper part, remove the two screws visible on the top of the microwave and remove the vent piece. Once you have done this, it's easy to remove the entire faceplate. Now I am wondering which part to order to replace the switch and faceplate. If you find out, please post.

SOURCE: Vent fan noise

I'd say the bearings are getting dry. I'd hit it with a a drop of 3-in-1 oil or sewing machine oil. If you don't have the owner's manual, you can download one here: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ It's also possible that the keeper which holds the fan blade assembly may be broken or loose. That could cause the fan to slip and rub. Either way it will have to be disassembled to a degree, probably starting with removal of the grille. Exploded views of this model may be helpful. They can be found at this site: http://www.geappliances.com/shop/prts/ Under 1 select "Repair Part", under 2 select "Microwave" and click "Go". A window will pop up and you'll enter your (complete) model number. Good luck.

SOURCE: can i install an external blower outside to boost

Possibly so.

I'd first check to be sure the grease filter is clean, the duct work is not clogged, and the outside vent is not home to an animal's nest.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

SOURCE: I have a GE Profile Spacemaker Microwave Touch Pad does not work

Sadly, GE does not make individual parts available for these controllers, so they cannot be repaired.

You have to replace the control panel sub-assembly (part number WB07X10733 in your case) and the best price I've found on that is $370.32 here (compared to $483.25 direct from GE).

In my opinion, this does not do much to inspire brand loyalty...

Or you may be able to find a whole oven on eBay for about that or less.

Sorry to bear bad news. Good luck.

Hi,
Remove the top grill and on top of the control panel is (1) screw, remove that and gently tap up the control panel to release the panel from the microwave front cabinet. Now as I researched this model, the buttons are part of the panel and are attached to the panel directly. Up may want to replace the microwave as the price is high to replace the panel. Part number is WB07X10972, Good Luck and be safe and unplug this unit before removing this panel.

Vent, Boost, Light buttons pushed in - not working

They may be available as a unit--two or more and will either be melted into place or secured with screws etc.

May not be a easy part to find or see if it is even sold as a part.

The fan, vent, light and clear button no longer

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

GE Profile Spacemaker 2.0 - black buttons on panel for vent, boost, and light broke . Any way to replace the buttons and take the panel off?

I had the same problem. The front plate is tabbed into place and removes with a flat tip screwdriver and prying in various spots to pop out the tabs. Once the front stainless plate comes off, you need to get behind the black buttons. There is a circuit board behind the buttons, which they make contact with. The problem with mine was the circuit board pushed beyond two metal tabs that keep it in place, so that the buttons were unable to make contact. I used a curved tool to pull the circuit board back forward in front of the tabs and into place. I put the front plate back on and it works like a champ.

Mircowave works, exhaust door opens, fan stop working

From looking at the owner's manual, it looks like the vent fan is only supposed to come on when the internal temperature of the microwave gets too high OR when you press the VENT FAN pad. Here are a couple of fan-related excerpts from the owner's manual, which can be found here: http://products.geappliances.com/ProdContent/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SKUOBJECTS&DOCUMENT=Use%20and%20Care%20Manual&SKU=JVM1840BD (or the better URL here: http://tinyurl.com/yn7r6g) Automatic Fan An automatic fan feature protects the microwave from too much heat rising from the cooktop below it. It automatically turns on if it senses too much heat. If you have turned the fan on, you may find that you cannot turn it off. The fan will automatically turn off when the internal parts are cool. It may stay on for 30 minutes or more after the cooktop and microwave controls are turned off. - Vent Fan The vent fan removes steam and other vapors from surface cooking. Press VENT FAN once for high fan speed, twice for medium fan speed, a third time for low faw speed, or a fourth time to turn the fan off. Press the VENT FAN BOOST pad for extra fan speed. - Hope this helps.
