Question about White Sewing 955 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

I have a White 955 machine and I am trying to quilt with it. It works just fine when I am sewing just one piece of material to another but when I want to sew the layers of the quilt together the stitches won't stay or the thread that runs through the needle breaks. It has been several years since I have quilted and I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

I know this is strange, but make sure the pressure foot is down. When I quilt sometimes, after getting the bulk under the needle, I forget to put the pressure foot down or it get's knocked back up by the quilt and causes the same problem. Good luck.

Hi, Free motion quilting is done with your programmed quilting stitches, Lower the feed dogs using the small white dial on the front of the machine behind the accessory tray, pick from one of the quilting stitches. they do make a free motion quilting tool ( I think they call it a hoop), but it just sets on top the material and helps you guide your material thru the machine. Hope this helps

The walking foot is too aggressive on material, causing it to claw rather than pull through nicely.

Walking foot may not work well on thin material or normal sewing, it is meant for quilting and is applied on several layers of material.

When i start sewing sometimes the material gets sucked down into the feeds dogs. this causes the thread and the material to make a mess i sometimes can not get the thread out i am making quilt pieces

Use a scrap of fabric under the pressure foot as a leader and feed the quilt square after it clears just like if you are chain sewing. After you have sewn the square clip the scrap off and use it again.

My granddaughter was given a white 955, serial 03205 machine but with no manual on how to use it - can you help

I think White sewing machines are part of the Singer group.
There is a free manual download available for the W955 (the W is for White) on the Sinnger website.
http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html
Just type 955 and click on search.
The next page shows a list of options for the W955, both old and new models. Just click on free download!
Hope this helps.

How do I quilt on my 9000

Your question is a little vague... Put simply, here is how to make a quilt. Start by putting 2 pieces of material (good sides together) and sew a 1/4 inch seam. Keep on adding pieces until you have a quilt.
