Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

My problem is when i goto auto cal my sony ht-ddw8600 it gets to the surround right speaker the screen says "protect" then turns itself off after a few seconds. I saw a post that said maybe a bit of stray wire could be shorting the termnals of the speaker. Ive sussed it out as much as i can without taking the back off the speakerbox and i cant find a short anywhere. Anyone know how to open these speaker boxes.

SOURCE: HT-DB120 - PROTECTION due to shorted output stage

i have the same problem. was playing a cd for my son for about 20 mins. CD started skipping then froze up and shut off. When trying to power on the word "PROTECTION" comes on then shuts right off. Is there any solution for this problem? My husband bought this when it first came out over 6 years ago at $400. I bearly even use it. It's a waste to throw away. Please someone help. Thanks.

SOURCE: I have a Kenwood KR-V7030

Hi,

Since it was just recently installed, would it be safe to assume that it is fairly new? If yes, perhaps your best bet would be to return to dealer/manufacturer for repairs/replacement. It is highly probable that the unit has sustained major hardware fault at least on the right channel. Even if it were just a fuse, it would still be to your advantage going that route.

Should for some reason you would venture a DIY, diagnosis and repairs of course would require fair familiarity with electronic components and circuitry, use of a VM and a soldering iron and preferable access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

in the 3D processing turn on the Pro Logic and the for the mode as well set it to pro logic.
it simulates 5.1 surround.

this is what I did and it's decent. Other way would be to run the system through a amp/receiver that supports 5.1 surround.

My HT-Z310 surround sound says protect

The amplifier has a bad channel, the power supply is bad, or the amplifier is drawing too much power. The speakers could also be wrong, if they are not the speakers that came ith th unit, they will need to be replaced. (Any speakers within the specs of the amplifier will work, so to that end the system is customizable. You can go to Samsung.com to find the amplifier's wattage per channel, but the speakers you get MUST be 3 ohms impedance.) I have an article/tip/how-to as to wiring multiple speakers to one channel.

Sony HT 6500 receiver...center speaker jack crackles as soon as speaker wire is connected to it. Tried new wire, new speakers...same thing. Tried to reset to factory settings...ONly L and R front speakers...

try to spray contact cleaner into the speaker port itself.. Powered off of course.. let it dry and try again.. this will clean any connectivity issues due to bad contacts.. as far as replacing jacks.. try the suspected "bad" speaker and wiring in another port.. if it works then the speaker and wiring is good and you have to check actual jack in which you were asking and back to auto amplifier circuit or transistors.

ERROR 12 - but all the speakers work. why?

The manual lists no error code 12. Check that all speakers are in the correct place in the room and that they are not out of phase (that on each speaker positive is connected to positive on the receiver and negative is to negative). Make sure that the mic is laying flat, and that the room is quiet. If using a sub woofer switch the speakers to small.

Problem "protect"

Hey guys, just had the same problem and found out it was because I had disconnected the central speaker. This it was creating a back impedance or something and reonnecting did the trick! i.e. check your speaker connections and check that they work... duff speakers could cause the problem too!

the system go to protect mode in case of trouble in output stage(power output component and cords and speakers.
try to connect each speaker one by one until you find the bad one change cord first for the bad one and check if not working you must change speaker itself.if all above does not solve the problem you must pass your sony to service center
