If compatibility mode doesn't work, the game is probably too old to be played on windows 7. You could use an emulation software to run an older windows version and play the game. Otherwise, Space Empires 2 being such an old game won't run on Windows 7. Sorry!

Make sure your Direct X installation isn't corrupted and that you have the latest video drivers. Visit the microsoft website for a Direct X installer.

SOURCE: I bought a new computer. When I tried to run

To be honest, there are only two options.

1. Go to the sierra online website and see if you can get a 64 bit version of the game

2. Get an entirely new OS of windows (a 32 bit version) and then try installing

SOURCE: Windows 7 incompatibility

If you have Windows 7 Ultimate, it comes with a Windows XP mode that allows you to emulate windows xp. If you haven't already tried right clicking the exe or shortcut and clicking the compatibility tab and setting it to windows xp service pack 2 (not 3 for some strange reasons)

Windows 7 driver needed

If you have Windows 7 32-bit, the XP driver will probably work. http://www.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=754345 has a copy. However most copies of Windows 7 are the x64 version. To check your OS version, click on Start and choose the Control Panel from the right hand column. Click on the System and Security link and then the System link. Read the version information. If it ends with x64, you aren't going to find a driver. You can try the compatibility mode with this driver but it often doesn't work for drivers. (Right click on the exe after downloading and choose properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and try setting it to Always Run in the compatibility mode with XP. Then right click again and choose Run As Administrator.) You may need to repeat this for the installed software as well; note the folder destination for the files.

If you have Win7 x64 and the compatibility mode fails, you would be better off upgrading to Windows 7 Pro and installing Virtual PC and XP mode. Then use the above driver in the XP virtual computer that is created. Alternatively, look into getting a new racing wheel controller that has a Windows 7 x64 driver.

This product was produced for systems with 16-bit and 32-bit versions of Windows. Since Microsoft requires digital signatures on x64 drivers, there would be significant costs to writing new drivers and getting them approved and signed. I'm not sure Game Elements is still in business.

I wish that I had better news for you.

I cannot install School house rock 3rd and 4th grade

There are workarounds besides using an older version of Windows (dual boot or a separate machine). This requires a licensed version of the older Windows OS. However, if you have the most common version of Windows 7 - Home Premium x64, you'll have to spend some money.

School House Rock - 3rd and 4th Grade works with Win98-XP. So, you can run a virtual computer with the older version of the Windows OS. Then install the School House Rock program into the virtual version of Windows as if it were the only copy of Windows. If you have Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate, or upgrade to one of these versions, you can do this for free. Download and install Virtual PC and XP mode from Microsoft (in order). Other virtual computer programs are VMWare and Parallels. However, with those, you need to buy the program and have a licensed version of the Windows OS.

If you have the 32-bit version of Windows 7, you can try the compatibility mode. (To check your version, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System. If the title of the OS ends with x64, you have the 64-bit version. Otherwise, you have the 32-bit version.) If you have the 32-bit, right click on the installer for the School House Rock software. Select Properties and then the Compatibility Tab. Check the Run this program in the compatibility mode and an older version of Windows. Then click Apply and then OK. Right click on the installer again and select Run As Administrator. You may need to repeat this for the program itself.

I hope this helps.

I'm using windows 7 32-bit. When I try to install dragonshard from autorun or setup.exe nothing shows up. I've tried compatibility mode, but nothing works.

If it is an older title it may have compatibility issues with windows 7. For example I have Diablo II for pc and i simply cannot run it in windows 7 because of compatibility issues.

Hi, phoogland!

Older products aren't compatible with newer OS. The best way you can play these games is probably by emulating a virtual PC. Try installing Windows 98 on a Windows Virtual PC.

Here's a link to a detailed manual: http://www.essjae.com/virtualization/WinVPC-InstallingWin98.pdf

If this didn't fix your issue please let me know. Hope this helped you!
