Mold

Techniques for Cleaning Surface Mold

Surface molds grow in just about any damp location, such as the grout lines of a ceramic tiled shower. They\'re easy to scrub away with a mixture of 1/2 cup bleach, 1 qt. water and a little detergent. The bleach in the cleaning mixture kills the mold, and the detergent helps lift it off the surface so you can rinse it away so it won\'t return as fast. You can also buy a mildew cleaner at hardware stores, paint stores and most home centers.

Even for simple cleaning, protect yourself from contact with mold and the bleach solution by wearing a long-sleeve shirt and long pants as well as plastic or rubber gloves and goggles.

If the mold doesn\'t disappear after light scrubbing, reapply the cleaning mix and let it sit for a minute or two. Then lightly scrub again.

Seal the clean surfaces when they\'re thoroughly dry to slow future moisture penetration. Apply a grout sealer (available at tile shops and home centers) to tile joints.

Caution!

Don\'t mix ammonia or any detergent containing ammonia with bleach. The combination forms a poisonous gas.

How to clean mold from shower tiles

bleach. spray it on and leave it.. make sure you have good ventilation and never mix it with anything else. if the tiles have caulking around them then you will probably have to get a grout tool to remove it and then re-grout. good luck

An awesome product that you spray on and let sit overnight. then simply wash it off. (Non Toxic / Non corrosive) No gloves required but does have an odd odor so I would let it soak outside. Heavy accumulations may require a second treatment.

Also great on shower heads. Remove it.. place it in a glass overnight and then re-install the next moring. Does not discolor anything. Ditto for shower enclosures and tile. Why this product is not in great demand is a mystery.

I'm insytalling new tile in shower should the frame of the shower doors be caulked?

Hello. Definitely yes. You want the tile, grout and caulk to be a semipermanent barrier for the water. If you do not caulk the frame, water will get in there and either leak or cause mold to form. Use a good quality silicon caulk, either clear, or white or a color that matches your grout lines. J.

Caulk coming off in Corian stall shower

If you have the option of not using the shower for a while, I would put a dehumidifier in the shower to **** the mositure out from below. If cost is no object, you can go ahead and pull the base. The key to the caulk is to completely remove the old caulk, clean carefully and use a silicon based caulk. Be sure to let it dry properly (see caulk cure times on tube).

I would like remove old vinyl shower wall and install a tile wall. but do i have to remove the drywall also? I'm keeping the shower base.

if the sheetrock is in good shape you should not have any problems. If you are worried about mold and mildew, you might want to change out the drywall with either green coat or yellow coat- these are mold and mildew resistant
