SOURCE: The chain is not moving on Poulan 4018 Wild Thing

I think you are saying the centrifugal clutch does not engage. It should not at idle. Did you rev it up a little and it still not engage? There is a clutch face on sprung weights that should expand and turn the clutch drum above idle. Please see the “Handle, Chassis & Bar Assembly” detail for clutch illustrations.

A 2375 has an outboard clutch (the chain is between the engine and clutch drum).

Use this as a guide to remove the clutch and inspect the parts:

  1. Check the IPL for your saw to see if any special tools are needed. Poulan (Craftsman, Jonsered, Husky) clutch removal tool part number 530031112 if needed, is under $5 from many sources,
  2. There are metal piston stops available, when square (almost never) with the piston top these work well, if not square they have been known to punch through the piston. I suggest a length of starter cord or nylon rope be used instead of the piston stop (retain 6" ± so you can remove it). Make sure the piston is near the top of the cylinder before feeding the cord or it can fall through the exhaust port and damage the piston as it rises.
  3. Everyone I have ever removed had a left handed thread (tighten it to loosen it).

A 4018 has an inboard clutch (only the drive sprocket extends into the clutch cover). Do this first then use the outboard procedure to remove the remaining clutch pieces.

The C-clips tend to fly when being removed. Please wear eye protection and exercise care.

SOURCE: Chain and sprocket won't move. Poulan P4018WT

Poulan P4018WT Gas Saw Type 2 link below (may not be your saw - 5 to choose from):

It has an inboard clutch. If this is your saw remove the clutch cover, bar,
chain and inspect the chain brake linkage within. Is the brake band tight against the clutch drum? If yes grasp the forward most upper handle and pull it aft (may require some force at rear extreme) until it clicks (a keeper nests in a detent). Is there a little clearance between the brake band and clutch drum? Can you spin the clutch drum now? If yes reassemble your saw.

How to tighten chain on 4620avx poulan pro

First, RTFM- read the manual. Lost it? No problem, download it from Poulan PRO website page for PP4620avx. Pick a version you like, save and read it. Google is your friend.
Chain Adjustment Part cut and pasted as follows:
Adjusting the tension:
Chain tension is very important. Chain stretches during use. This is especially true during the first few times you use your saw. Always check chain tension each time you use and refuel your saw.
1. Lift lever on bar knob and turn counter-clockwise 1.5-2 turns to loosen clutch cover.
2. Turn adjusting wheel (downward direction) to tension chain until chain solidly contacts bottom of guide bar rail. Lift tip of guide bar while adjusting tension. Tighten chain Adjusting Wheel
3. Use a screwdriver to move chain around guide bar to ensure all links are in bar groove.
4. While lifting tip of guide bar, tighten bar knob securely (clockwise).
Hand tighten only.

Be careful not to destroy the adjustment mechanism. When it breaks, go for a clutch cover with the simple adjuster that needs a "scrench". Longer term, learn how to search this info. Saves time. Now you can work on sharpening chains- very important.

Chain keeps falling off

Check the machine is oiling ok, if there is not enough oil to lub the chain it will stretch causeing it to come off, you should see a good spray of oil from the tip of the bar when the saw is reving.

Chain is extremely loose and turning the screw to tighen does not fix the problem

You need to loosen the cover fasteners before the adjuster will do anything. Turn the adjuster CW to tighten the chain--bring the chain up to the bar, but not so tight that you can't move the chain by hand. Recheck the tension after tightening the cover fasteners. Hope this helps!

Chain wont turn when running

Check the tensioner screw, it could be too tight. Loosen the slack and the chain should move. And of course do this while its off.

Chain keeps turning while in the idle position . Poulan Pro 2075 chain saw.

There will be an idle (Low) speed adjustment screw somewhere on the saw (look in your manual). Adjusting this setting lower will prevent the chainsaw chain from turning in the idle throttle position. Basically you want to set it so the chain has just stopped moving... but you need to set this after the chainsaw has warmed up a little.

Poulan chain saw. After starting, chain drive won't move

If equipped, the chain brake may be engaged. Its the lever just ahead of the fore handle. (pull back on it)

If the clutch assy. were frozen, then the chain would move all the time.

Good luck
