Question about Ricoh Aficio AP3800C Laser Printer

A5 paper jam every time

Hello - I am trying to print A5 duplex from tray 2, but it jams on exit from the tray giving a misfed paper internal path A error. Tried single side printing instead of duplex, but jammed just the same. Then tried the same with A4 and it worked perfectly.
So, to summarize, I can print A4 from Tray 2, but A5 jams every time - any ideas?

    Thanks for fast response!
Paper guides inside tray two are set to A5 and locked in place, and the paper stack is about 25% of max allowed. Still jamming - more ideas appreciated, thanks.

  • chrispeen Jan 04, 2009

Thanks - just tried A4 again. It will only print when inserted in tray 2 orientated as landscape, if I turn the paper to portrait in the tray it jams exactly as A5.

  • chrispeen Jan 04, 2009

I have completely removed tray 2 and checked inside with a torch - no sign of even a small piece of paper jammed, nor any sign of damage or sticky bits on the rollers. Also opened right cover and checked for stuck paper, but nothing there either.

  • chrispeen Jan 04, 2009

AP3800 prints A5 from Bypass and Tray 2.

  • chrispeen Jan 04, 2009

Hard reset made no difference. Absolutely certain there is nothing jammed or stuck.

  • chrispeen Jan 04, 2009

That link would have been OK if I had an HP printer. Also for the umpteenth time, I have VERY CAREFULLY examined the area inside and out of tray 2 for even the smallest of jammed paper or other debris. Honestly, there is nothing!
Get the feeling that there is more than a tad of autoresponse going on here!
The A5 paper that jams is identical to the A4 paper that prints - I cut it myself from the same stock (yes, it really is A5 size, cut on a professional guillotine).
Any more ideas? A big thank you to all who have provided ideas so far!

  • chrispeen Jan 04, 2009

I have been using printers since 1983. I have worked out the difference between portrait and landscape, and A4 and A5 sizes, thanks anyway.
Nice European papers, pity they don't sell in the UK, thanks for trying.

  • chrispeen Jan 04, 2009

Tray 2 only accepts A5 in portrait.
Why is someone telling me about A4 papers?
How do I get a refund?

  • chrispeen Jan 05, 2009

So how do I correct the default to paper jam?

  • chrispeen Jan 05, 2009

Thanks - I have all the manuals, and I can load the tray correctly. I have also searched the Ricoh knowledge base, so there is no need to keep pointing me there.
I just wondered if someone had already come across this strange problem and had found a solution.
To summarize again, Tray 2 prints A4 in landscape, but jams in portrait. It ALWAYS jams when set for A5. I am familiar with the normal driver and printer settings. I know the different paper sizes. I am aware of paper quality. I have all the manuals. I have searched Ricoh knowledge base. I have been using printers for 25 years.
It looks like this is a mechanical problem which needs an on-site engineer.
    Thanks everbody.

  • chrispeen Jan 05, 2009

If the paper in Tray 2 ALWAYS jammed I would agree that cleaning might help, but, it does print with A4 in landscape (which presents to the rollers exactly as A5 portrait does).

  • chrispeen Jan 05, 2009

The machine has printed 353,757 colour and 342,342 B&W sheets. The rollers appear sound and were judged to be OK by a pre-sale engineer, but I do not know when they were last replaced.
Hope to hear from you again Bubbabear64!

  • chrispeen Jan 05, 2009

The A5 paper that jams is identical in every resect to the A4 that prints.
All driver and printer settings are correct.

  • chrispeen Jan 05, 2009

Sounds the most promising idea - thank you

This may be due to deformation in the size of the output side of the printer, which may be due to some force or weight applied on it.try to check it .thank you

I would like to suggest to check the paper size in the printer properties and in printer it self. please set the paper size to A5 in printing & preferences and set A5 for tray 2 in printer and than try to get the print. And also check for the thickness of A5 size paper is it harder than A4 or What ? If A5 is thicker than A4 Than kindly replace the A5. and ask for the paper a5 with same thickness as of a4.

Another thing that usually is the culprit of this printer are two things:

    1) Paper that could have moisture in it.

    2) The back stop could be not secured. If it isn't it could lose tension when grabbing the paper causing it to slip. They do break from time to time.

If these solutions don't work and you have a lot of miles on it, it might be a good idea just to replace the paper clutch for that particular paper tray.

Just open the lid up and spray that spray air into it and use a cue tip and rub rubbing alcohol on the rollers on the side so its not so dirty..

Thanks,

Hello! this may seem saft but I had a similar problem that was caused by **** paper feed? When I took the sheets from the **** I just shoved them into tray/feed and they really need some Tlc, give em a twist n turn possibly shake/ruffle before popping them in feed. If 2 or more sheets are offered due to sticking the machine defaults to paper jam!
Hope this FixYa's Prob!

Your printer is capable of accepting a5, load the paper on a different direction, with the leading edge 5.83" feed first, then properly aligned the side guides to match your paper this will surely work this time, then slect a5 on your printing properties on your pc

    Sir,

To reduce the frequency of paper and transparency jams,

Use only the recommended sizes and weights of paper in the
    trays;

After removing a paper jam, be sure to remove any paper scraps.

Occasionally clean the feed rollers. Wipe off paper dust with a
    dry, clean cloth

Unlock the A5 plastic track and allign it just to fit the A5 paper then lock again, and make sure on the settings you choose A5 paper for tray 2 specifying it as landscape or protrait orientation. if all that didnt work, then make sure to buy good quality A5 paper, since some manufacurers might make the paper dimensions out of specifications ( alittle longer, shorter, wider...etc)
if that didnt work, then you need to open up the printer and make sure there's no dust or grease is on the inner sides of the wheel that takes in the papers, since A5 is smaller than A4.

First try hard reset .

Unplug the unit from power chord for 30 minutes and plug back the power chord to the unit .
This will reset your unit .

If reset doesnot work then try the following

  • Remove paper trays and check for damaged paper.
  • Open the doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge and check for any bit of paper .

  • Close the doors you opened and turn the printer back on.

Ensure that you are setting (manually ) the plastic guides that hold paper at the sides inside tray in the proper way.

Try also loading a bigger number of paper sheets inside the tray.

WHAT IS 007-243 code error

This fault code isn't specific to one location/function on your machine, however, I believe it is directly related to your paper trays. Other fault codes begining with 007-??? state a tray sensor error, misfed media in a tray etc...
-
If you're trying to print to a specific tray and it won't print giving this error, you may want to try printing using a different tray. It is entirely possible you have some jammed up paper in the paper path and this will stop all trays from printing.
-
Potential solution:
-
Ensure you don't have any paper jams related to your paper path and trays, herre is a link that provides you all iinstructions to clear any paper jam on your device http://www.support.xerox.com/support/workcentre-7328-7335-7345-7346/support/enus.html?associatedProduct=workcentre-7328-35-45-46-built-in-controller

NOTE: The above link is a support knowledgebase and you can search on any problem you may have with your product by typing the natural language query in the search field, paper jam, can't print, scan fails transferiing etc...

Once you have determined there isn't a paper jam or if so gently remove any misfed paper.Reboot the device PO/PO power off/power on.
-
If the print jobs fail again, check your job status and see if there is any info listed for your print job, could be a media mismatch.
-
Try printing to another paper tray, if your job is calling for paper from tray 3 try using tray 4 or tray 5 etc..
-
I have provided a generic response to this question and kind of throwing ideas out there, if you could provide additional information I may be able to give a better solution.
-
Check the details of your job in the job status list?
A lot of times the machine will provide good direction on potential issues with a print job.
-
Are you trying to print on a custom paper size?
If you tell the print driver to print to tray 3 and you have 8.5X11 loaded in tray 3 and your print job from ypour PC is actually 8.5X14 then the job will not print simply put the media has to match the job.

I hope this helps.

We had a paper jam in the print engine area. Once the paper path has been cleared we are still receiving clear misfed paper in print engine. I have fed paper through the path and cannot find any paper jam.

If your Xerox WC 4150 is displaying "Clear the Jam in the Print Area" you should check and possibly replace the fuser exit actuator (part# 120N00534). Iteminc.com has this part in stock and ships same day. Here is a video the shows you how to check and replace the fuser exit actuator. Good luck, and thanks for using FixYa!

Thank you contacting FixYa for your printer inquiry.
This error is associated with either a sheet of paper blocking the paper path or a partial piece of paper that blocks path or trips a sensor. The printer will usually throw up a error code 13.XX on the display and the XX is a number that will indicate where in the paper path this error most probably occurred. Just follow the steps for your error on the below chart.
This link will take you to the user guide which will be helpfull identifying components and providing guidelines for most of the helpful hints and things you will need to know about this printer.

Fix for 13.12 error

Hi

You are getting Error 13.12 due to paper jam at Paper feed 1. It can also happen when the Paper doesn't reach PS2(paper sensor 2).

Please check the picture for more details---

3688578.jpg
Try printing from Tray 2 or Tray 3, if it fails printing from tray 2 or 3 then Paper sensor 2 (PS2) is bad. To check the movement of flag insert the paper manually in the sensor path.

Remove any paper present in printer and then perform a paper path test using a duplexer. If issue is still not resolved then please remove the duplexer unit and re seat it. After re seating the duplexer your issue will be resolved.

How do I fix a paper jam? I've got paper jam around the exit roller and I can't get it out?

There should be a way to unlock one of the sides. Try taking out the toner cartridge and going in that way. If you can see the paper, get a pair of needle nose pliers and SLOWLY see if you can pull the paper out.

Oki C9300 - paper keeps jamming in the 2 same places, reads either 383 paper jam or non paper sense error. All drums and tonners are new, paper is loaded.

your getting a 383 paper jam, find paper in two different places.
See if it's a duplex related problem. print single sided documents, if that works, try printing two sided documents (it'll be the duplexer) if it only fails while printing duplex.

Also, check the back door. Make sure the back exit tray is closed all the way.

You can also have a paper jam in the duplex unit (open the front door), the duplex unit slides out the front. You can easily remove the duplex unit and run the printer without it.
