Question about Air Conditioners

I have an inwall Friedrich Heating and a/c unit. The blower for the heat comes on but blows cold air. The a/c side blower does not work at all. Both happened about the same time. Related? Why not heat and no fan.

HI most boards have a small 3 or 5 amp fuse on the board it looks just like a car fuse. do not put in wrong size fuse it can allow damage to the board.

    the reversing valve has a separate coil. some energize on cool mode, some on heat mode. Has the thermostat been replaced? I find this a common mistake.

Usually a thermal temprature sensor (just like a metal rod) is responsable for doing that. those sensors usually are not the problem, but the transistors and resistors that connect with it are usually the problem. check the parts around that sensor (transistors, resistors, diodes, amplifyers) its output usually goes to either an amplifier or a transistor. check them or replace them with the right equivilant part number.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, I doubt if directly related but, it is possible the tap off points for the wiring are on the same connector hence the A/C blower was also affected. On the heater:

  • heating element (likely) - could be checked with a continuity tester/ohmmeter;
  • thermostat (least likely) - continuity check, should change when heated;
  • thermal cutoff (least likely) - fuse like action when specified temperature exceed;
  • relay switch (most likely) - this performs the actual switching on of the heater. In certain instances, it could be the relay contacts are corroded or burned off, however, more often faults are the lug connectors that are corroded/burned. In some designs, the A/C blower wiring is tapped from the same connector.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Unit not heating at all , and ac blower are normally two separate problems, that concern different parts.

If they happened at the same time, the more likely is that there had been a short on wirings, or there is a problem on control board or a faulty timer control.

Start checking the wirings to the timer control, and ensure the control is working. Try also starting functions on AC manually.

If you have still problems, even when setting AC directly, then the unit must be taken apart and tested, starting from fan , and heating system, if this two are working, then it is a faulty control board.

My weatherking acclaim furnace was working well, but started blowing cold air and would not shut off. I shut it off via fuse box and waited 15 min. and tried it...now it starts blowing cold air right

Usually when there is a problem with a unit in the heating mode it default to the blower running. Could be one of the limit switches need to be reset - or it could be some other issue related to the heating circuit.

You probably need to get someone to check it out.

Ac unit will not heat

You need to check your model # a CP06 is a straight cooling window unit you may have an EP08G10 this is a heat cool unit. Double check your thermostat is turned to higher setting. If so you may have an issue with the heating element or the heat limit on the element.

Keep +10 degree from your room temp and also thermostat in "heat" . And then check. But in your case, I think RV not energized. If no proper voltage in RV in heat mode, check the wiring to RV. If voltage in means RV not working properly. You have to change RV. Thanks.

Intertherm heating

My heating unit is blowing cool air. The thermostat will start the blower when the unit is turned on at the thermostat, but the air isn't hot. But,when I turn the unit on at the furnace/blower using the "Fan On" button, I can see the heating element heat up. After the blower starts the heating element does out. What could be the problem?
