Question about HP "officejet 4500 all-in-one inkjet printer"
After connecting the printer to a Lenovo laptop via a USB cable, it shows up as 'Unspecified' in the Devices and Printers window, while the HP setup program does not recognize it. I have a feeling this happened because I originally connected the printer before launching the setup program. So now any time it's connected Windows 'remembers' it as unspecified. Windows troubleshoot tool was useless - it could not find the driver it needs to solve the problem.
With the printer connected, find the unidentified device in device manager, right click and choose uninstall. Then disconnect it and restart. Then, restart with the printer disconnected. Run the setup again, and follow the directions. Make sure you get the latest software from the HP site for your specific model to run the setup.

The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

You can't hook up a "fax machine" to be used with WinFax. WinFax requires a fax modem, not a fax machine. Sorry , but what you want to do is not possible at least with WinFax software.
If your fax machine is designed to connect to a computer (some of them are), then you'll probably have to use the custom software that was included with the fax machine.

I'm sure you've tried installing the software with the printer detached...but if you haven't, that's the first thing. Another thing that's really common is that Vista may want to install its own drivers and they may not be compatible. Go into device manager (start-menu, right click on "computer", go to properties). Click on the hardware tab and let's get into device manager from there. Look for a yellow symbol with a ! in it. You can update drivers from there, navigating to the disk that you installed from...you'll likely see something that says "drivers" and either Vista or XP (If there's no Vista, try XP drivers anyway. Hope that works...

SOURCE: wont connect to new laptop
You will need to go to this site http://www.hp.com/#Support and click on the link that says automatically detect product, make sure yourr fax is hooked up to your computer while doing this. Then once you get that put in there and detected you will need to look for the latest driver download for your fax. It will ask you what operating system you have, select that and then download! You should be good to go! Hopefully this was helpful, if you have any other questions please let me know.
please leave rating if you were satisfied with this, thanks!
