Question about HP "officejet 4500 all-in-one inkjet printer"

HP Officejet printer show up as unspecified device in Windows 7

After connecting the printer to a Lenovo laptop via a USB cable, it shows up as 'Unspecified' in the Devices and Printers window, while the HP setup program does not recognize it. I have a feeling this happened because I originally connected the printer before launching the setup program. So now any time it's connected Windows 'remembers' it as unspecified. Windows troubleshoot tool was useless - it could not find the driver it needs to solve the problem.

With the printer connected, find the unidentified device in device manager, right click and choose uninstall. Then disconnect it and restart. Then, restart with the printer disconnected. Run the setup again, and follow the directions. Make sure you get the latest software from the HP site for your specific model to run the setup.

SOURCE: Our computer will not recognize the Fax Machine

You can't hook up a "fax machine" to be used with WinFax. WinFax requires a fax modem, not a fax machine. Sorry , but what you want to do is not possible at least with WinFax software.

If your fax machine is designed to connect to a computer (some of them are), then you'll probably have to use the custom software that was included with the fax machine.

SOURCE: My computer won't recognize (wirelessly) to my HP Deskjet

I'm sure you've tried installing the software with the printer detached...but if you haven't, that's the first thing. Another thing that's really common is that Vista may want to install its own drivers and they may not be compatible. Go into device manager (start-menu, right click on "computer", go to properties). Click on the hardware tab and let's get into device manager from there. Look for a yellow symbol with a ! in it. You can update drivers from there, navigating to the disk that you installed'll likely see something that says "drivers" and either Vista or XP (If there's no Vista, try XP drivers anyway. Hope that works...

SOURCE: wont connect to new laptop

You will need to go to this site and click on the link that says automatically detect product, make sure yourr fax is hooked up to your computer while doing this. Then once you get that put in there and detected you will need to look for the latest driver download for your fax. It will ask you what operating system you have, select that and then download! You should be good to go! Hopefully this was helpful, if you have any other questions please let me know.
please leave rating if you were satisfied with this, thanks!

I have HP Officejet 6500 connected via USB to office desktop. I also need print from vista laptops on the same wireless network as the desktop. How do you do it ?

Hi, I just completed this same query this week.

to set up my remote network i followed promts from windows and then had to run my windows xp startup disc on my vista laptop.

After that was complete i had to install the hp printer setup cd onto my vista laptop and connect the hp printer to my router using the ethernet cable. I followed the prompts on the vista as the cd continued to install. then at the end of it all it showed i had correctly installed the printer via wireless and asked me to do a practice print which i did and all seems fine.

I can now print from my vista laptop and my windows xp desktop. I hope this helps

When installing the printer click on local printer and uncheck the box below it. I think it says something like locate my device. then on next screen click create new port, you should see USB001 in there.

Just got a HP laptop for work that's running windows 7. It won't find our HP 5610 printer at home even tho I've downloaded the right driver

Is the printer directly connected to the laptop by a USB cable? Try a new cable. Check that the USB ports work by plugging in a known working device.

If you are using a print server or USB hub, try a direct connection. (If networked, check that your firewall isn't blocking the access by disabling it. If the print server is another computer, make sure that computer's firewall isn't blocking the laptop (trust level between the two machines).

I hope this helps.

I have a new computer w/ Windows 7 -- and my OJ 4315 won't connect. Except it did! Long enough to print one page. now it says can't find the driver. What should I do? I have rebooted, unplugged,...

Unplug the printer.

You should Open Devices and Printers. Then remove the printer. Then open Device Manager and remove the USB connection for the device. Use the "Show Hidden devices"option from the menu. Remove any USB connections that show up there with an exclamation point.

Plug in the printer.
Check to see if you can see a valid connection to this printer.

Try a new USB cable and check if the printer works in another USB port (or another computer). Check if a known working device works in the USB ports on your computer. Check if your USB ports have been disabled for security or power-savings (esp when on battery) in the Device Manager and the Power Savings area.

I hope this helps.
