Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

The mop makes steam, but when it builds up, it makes the mop head explode off.

There is white crusty looking material inside the mop head and on the end where the steam comes from the housing of the steam maker, but it feels like fabric. Is there supposed to be fabric there, or is this all mineral build-up that I should try to dissolve or break off

I actually soaked both parts - the end of the main unit and the top of the mop head - in vinegar overnight and poked an opened paperclip into both areas until they seemed to be clear. The build up of steam still pushed the mop head off. I went to Lowe's and looked at a display model and pulled the head off of the body, and I noticed that there is a tab on the main body of the steaming unit that the mop head clicks on to. That tab is no longer on my mop and I wonder if it broke off somehow when the steam built up. I actually tried to duck tape the mop head to the main body, but now the steam won't build up at all. I don't know if there is a safety mechanism or not that stops the water from heating when things aren't right, but I think I have to give up on it. I loved my steam mop and will probably get another one and always use distilled water in it.

If it pops the head off or loose time to get it looked at or replaced, do not use it this way.

Head pops off when steam builds up on my Shark mop

Has head been replaced recently?
1. Make certain head is fully latched into place with attached rod / rods.
2. Do you have a picture of connection of head assembly?

3. Not to worry, this sounds as easy fix versus replacement.
Let us know if above resolves or requires further assistance.

Best of luck to ya!

Tip

Shark steam mop not producing steam

It is a design flaw having a check valve orifice built into the steam generator.
The plastic sleeve gets hot and get hard and shrinks enough to cause blockage at the inlet to steam generator.
Also a lot of sediment builds up inside steam generator from impurities in the water which eventually causes a problem and block at the mop head.
solution would be to move the check valve from the steam generator to the pump discharge line where it is cooler. and use only distilled water. they should also use a stainless heater element instead of pot metal as it corrodes.
My grey & purple steam mop is getting very little steam at the head. is there a way to clean it without damaging the product? or is there another solution for low steam?

Mixing white vinegar with water about a cup of vinegar and a cup of water ratio and let it steam through the mop. This is also good for steam irons and other appliances such as coffee/tea makers. The acetic acid in the vinegar will dissolve the calcium build up that blocks the steam ports and will not hurt plastic or floors. If you object to the vinegar smell, then mix a little lemon juice with the last cup of water and this rids you of the vinegar smell. I use the white vinegar to mop the wooden floors in the house.

Steam Tek mop doesnt steam anymore

We had a similar experience. I opened the head to look if the steam line was clogged. There was no sign of dirt or calcium build up, so I opened up the body. Found that one of the heater wires had come loose. The connector, which is crimped to the wire, was charred. Could be a potential fire hazard!

I notice that a similar product marketed under the Thane brand has been recalled for wiring issues.

We will try to return this mop for a refund.
