I cannot get the Dell Vostro 420 to detect my powered usb hub

I have tried several powered hubs. The unit will not recognize any of them.

Thanks for the suggestions, but none of them work. The problem is this: All the USB ports on the machine work fine, with any other USB device that I plug in to them - hard frives, memory sticks, mice, keyboards, barcode readers, etc. The only device that is not recognised is a USB hub - any USB hub, powered or unpowered, of any of the numerous makes that I have tried. So I am still open to suggestions. Again, thanks a lot to everyone.

Thanks, but your suggestion is not really relevant. Pen drives work fine; the problem is that USB hubs, powered or unpowered, do not work when plugged into the machine.

File transfer cable doe not recognize computer when connected to usb hub

Some USB hubs are "powered", some are not. If you have several different things plugged into the hub, you most likely need a powered hub, one that plugs into the wall for power. USB devices need power supplied over the USB cable, and one computer socket can't always supply enough power for several devices.

Not sure I understand this hub either. Looks like only one port is a USB 2.0 port, but here is a snippet from the manual......

This iConcepts USB Hub provides the electronic interface between USB devices and the host, It allows up to five USB devices or Hubs to connect an upstream USB Hub or Host port.

Features
• One USB 2.0 port
• 4 Port USB 1.1 and support high speed (480 mbps) and 4 port full speed (12 mbps) operations.
• The USB 2.0 port can operate both USB 2.0 & 1.1 Devices
• USB 2.0 port supports self powered mode and bus - powered mode, indicated by a powered LED .
• Over current detection and protection

On your computer, go to <start><my computer>. Right click on My computer and select "properties". Select "hardware" and then "device manager". On the drop down menu, select the hub in question and be sure it is not "disabled". Also be sure that the power options on this hub "never expire", as Windows default sets a given time for this....accordianman

Fixed amber light - start, shut down itself and restart itself Hello, Yesterday morning, I have installed a second screen linked to my graphic card. I tried to install a 3rd screen on the VGA motherboard, and it didn't work so I take it off. I could work on the computer with the 2 screens all day long. I left my office and the screensaver started. When I came back, I couldn't started my computer and my screen didn't light on after moving the mouse or writting on the keyboard. Then, I shut down my computer to restart it. Here is the problem. 1) The power light was fix and amber, the ventilation works. 2) 2-3 seconds later, it shuts down itself for few seconds 3) And it restarts itself. However, I still have the fix amber light and the screen is not activated. I checked the wall plug, I reduced the number of device on the trailling socket. I removed and reinstalled from the motherboard the RAM memory card and my graphic card. I tried with only one screen. But I still have the same problem. Do you have any ideas about what the problem could be: - Is the motherboard over? - Is the graphic card over? - Is the power bloc over? How could I evaluate which component is not working correctly? Thanks for your precious help. My configuration : - Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200(2,33GHz,1333MHz,4Mo) - Windows Vista - Cordon d'alimentation : Européen 2M - Carte graphique : 256Mo DDR2 ATI Radeon HD 3650 (pleine hauteur, sortie DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort,Double affichage)
