Dim or dark display can be caused by a faulty inverter board or faulty CCFL lamp. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp, the CCFL lamp is a miniture fluro tube and these dim with age. if your monitor came with a disk try installing the drivers again you might still have the drivers for the previous monitor you had with your system if not try going to the manufacturers website and getting the drivers and install them
Was there an installation disc that came with it in the package? Some
monitors require software to be used. If you don't have the
installation disc, you will most likely find the necessary software on
the manufacturer's support site: ProLite Support Driver Download Site.
If the monitor software doesn't solve the problem, try using a different DVI cable. More often than not, these types of problems can be traced back to a faulty cable or port. If the DVI port on the monitor is bad, you will have to use the VGA port as you are now or replace the monitor.
If the DVI port on the video card is bad, you will need to replace it. A good way to test this is if you have another monitor with an available DVI port you can connect to the video card.
If you're talking about a CRT that is going on "The Blink", yes this is where the name comes from. And this is becoming more and more of a problem you do indeed need a new monitor.

Be certain what ever you buy is compatible with your current video display adapter. If your adapter has a VGA and a DVI socket than you can get either in a flat panel which is to say 60Watts vs 180 Watts in power consumption. The larger the flat panel the more power it consumes. More often than not, a 17 or 19" flat panel is more than sufficient. If you actually plan on sitting at your PC and watching movies go wider. If you are a hard core gamer go wider. Otherwise, a 17 or 19" monitor should serve you well.
Check that the power cord is fully plugged in first.
It is probably the inverter board inside the monitor. (if the screen does properly display ever then it is not the screen) It CAN be fixed but I do not suggest anyone open up a monitor (LCD or CRT) who is not "technically inclined."
If you really want to fix this particular one then take it to a local tech and get an estimate first. If it's almost as much as a new monitor then buy a new one.
