This unfortunately sounds like a hardware problem on the motherboard itself. This may be especially true if the sound, ethernet, etc. no longer even show up in the windows device manager. You might try rebooting the computer, entering the setup BIOS page, selecting the "setup defaults", typically F7, or F9, or other, there should be a "menu", save and exit. If that clears up the problem, great. If not, you might try a PCI ethernet card, sound card, and USB, to have those things back. Otherwise I am afraid you may be up for a replacement motherboard or another computer. If replacing the motherboard, try to find an exact replacement so windows doesn't have to be re-installed.
I also highly recommend backing up any files you want to keep before taking any of the steps previously mentioned.
Good luck!

I suddenly lost all my volume, no music, nothing

If all was going well and you haven't been messing with the settings, I would suggest doing a system restore back to when it worked.

ACER screen is frozen when switched on

you have a driver conflict, if you have the system restore I suggest you try that, but however anything you have saved on the drive will be lost, if you have anything connected to it when you boot it up, i suggest you unhook it first and try to boot and see if the screen is still frozen, if it's not then something you had hooded up to it was your conflict, and if not try the system restore.

hit me up if I can be of further assistance

Windows xp dilemma?

Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and run a scan of your computer.

If after that you are still getting "weird" stuff, back up your important files and run your recovery program. (Not restore.) I have found that restore seldom works with a lot of malware.
