Generally compressors develop their own sounds as they age. Make sure the condenser is good and clean. Its about all you can do.

at the end of the day its all down to costs
first ask yourself how old is this compressor?
how much to fix it and re-gass it?
if you pay to fix it, how much life is left in the old girl?
how much for a new compressor?
now,,,how much life will be in that one???? years!
not a hard choice,,but all down to costs!
