This sound like its a bios problem, check in the bios F2 or Del on boot up and look in the menu for your internal wireless adapter as it may have been dissabled. This is the only way your notebook can possibly have to keep installing it, as the device is there but not being recognised next time you boot, check to see if the cmos time is correct, as other things may be incorrect. The only other thing is that the card driver is not correctly loaded as when the pc boots it should find the hardware then install the driver for the wireless reciever straight away, if its asking for a driver then the driver has not been registered in windows and cannot be found.

Follow this sequence to reach Deviceicon1.png Manager.
1. Click on Start Menu / Right-click on Computer / Click on Manage.
2. Click on Device Managericon1.png on the left column, and then double click on Network adaptersicon1.png.
3. You should see 2 adapters, double-click on your wireless adapter to enter property.
4. Go to Advanced tab, select Radio Power and make sure it's set to Disable.
5. Try your Ethernet connectivityicon1.png again.

You should now be able to use strictly your Ethernet.

How can i connect a toshiba runniung windows me. to the internet via ethernet cable? is it possible with just the cable and no card? is there a programe i can download to help my laptop? what can i do?

Hi,
It should have a LAN (network card) built in to the laptop.
First of all make sure you have the LAN (network drivers) installed. You can do this by checking in device manager.
To open device manager click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the System icon. Click the Device Manager tab and look in the list for network adapters/controllers.

If the driver is installed you should be able to directly connect the ethernet cable to your laptop.

I'm not quite sure where the ethernet port is on that particular laptop but it will be on the back or sides of the unit and it will be the only port the ethernet cable fits into.

From there you should be good to go, if you can't get a connection reset the modem by removing power from it for 2 minutes, connect the power again, wait another 2 minutes for the device to settle and try the internet connection again.

Regards.

Cannot connect to internet thru ethernet jack on computer

It could be. Check your Device Manager and make sure the device isn't disabled. Also each adapter has its own TCP/IP settings so make sure yours on your ethernet adapter are set the same as your USB adapter that is working. If it does turn out to be bad you can always add a new ethernet card for cheap.

Acer 5100 lost dvd/cd drive

Is the DVD drive listed in device manager under CD/DVD drives at all? If so, remove it and reboot. Windows might be able to re-detect and reinstall the drivers for it, but odds are the drive is bad. You can try removing the drive from the computer, and use compressed air to blow out the area where it connects to the laptop. Also check the connection on the DVD drive to make sure there isn't any physical damage, bent pins, etc.

Hope this helps - remember to rate!
