It is probably a Torx screwdriver. You can purchase them at Home Depot,Lowe's or even Wal-mart

The memory socket is located below and to the right of the keyboard. The panel is to the right of the mouse pad.

The keyboard needs to be removed. DO NOT REMOVE THE KEYBOARD CABLE! Remove the screw located in the middle lof the underside of the n610c. Slide the four tabs located on the top edge of the keyboard toward the space bar. The tabs are located to the right of the esc, the F4, the F8, and F12 key. Using a flat blade screwdriver gently lift the top edge of the keyboard, once it is lifted slide it toward the screen.

The panel covering the memory may require "gentle force" to remove.

A small flat blade screw driver should work to remove the screw on the underside that fastens the keyboard. Compaq did use torx screws on a lot of their products.

How do I upgrade my ram on my Gateway All in one zx4250?

I too purchased a Gateway ZX4250 and a 4 GB RAM upgrade kit. It took me awhile to figure out how to open the case. Here is what I found.

1) Remove the two rubber pads at the bottom of the case (don't worry they pop right back on).
2) Open the small back cover.
3) Remove the one screw.
*****CAREFUL****
4) This part is a little difficult but just be careful not to use too much force. Take two small flat head screwdrivers and slowly separate the plastic silver front panel from the plastic black back panel. Start at the bottom where the two rubber pads were removed. Work your way around the case, you can see how the clips are connecting the two panels as you work your way around the all-in-one. It shouldn't be too hard just be careful on how much force you use.
5) Once the panels are separated you can now access the hard drive, optical drive and some other components.
6) Disconnect the Hard drive sata cable from the motherboard.
7) Disconnect the other cable right next to the sata cable on the motherboard (I'm not sure as to the purpose of this cable.
8) Remove the screws from the metal plate covering the motherboard. Take careful note that a grounding cable is connected to one screw.
9) Install your RAM.
10) Reverse the procedure to put everything back together.

This whole procedure to upgrade my RAM took about 15 minutes. I hope this helps some of you that are trying to upgrade your RAM. If you have any questions PM me.

I want to upgrade my ram on the dimension 4500. how do i open the computer to replace the 256mb with 2 each 512mb chips

unplug your pc from power.
on the back of your case there are two screws on the right. one top and one at the bottom. unscrew these and remove the side of the case.
then you will see the motherboard. to remove the rams there are two plastics on each end of the ram. push them aside and remove the ram.

How do you open a compaq presario sr1630nx computer to install memory upgrades

Viewing the back of your computer, you will see a large thumb screw, on the right side of the computer case.

It's to the right of that round ventilation opening. (Round shape with multiple holes in it)
Unscrew the thumb screw to the Left, to loosen it.

The side panel that the thumb screw is in, pulls back towards the rear of the computer.
If you look, there is a place to put your fingers at the end of the side panel.
(Raised 'Hump' in the sheet metal of the panel)

Hold the top of the computer case with one hand, pull the side panel back with the other hand.

NOTE*
The computer MUST be unplugged from power before proceeding!

Not only is there a possible issue for Your safety, but also the computer's!
You will fry out the Ram Memory stick/s if you remove, or install with the computer plugged into power.

Also,......there is an Anti-Static issue that needs to be addressed, BEFORE you reach inside your computer

Your body carries Static electricity.
Static will fry out the hardware components inside a computer.
(In a Flash!)

Work on a table. Computer unplugged from power, computer case open. TOUCH the metal frame of the computer case BEFORE you reach inside.

TOUCH the metal frame Before, you take those ram sticks out of their protective antistatic bags.

Should you get up for any reason, walk away, then return, Touch the metal frame again.

Refrain from touching the gold plated contact pins, on the bottom of the ram stick.
You can handle the ram stick anywhere, but on those contact pins.
The ram stick is coated with a see-through plastic.
The contact pins are not.

Should you need advice on how to remove, and install ram memory, please state so in a comment. (Top right of page)

Cant open the case to my HP pavilion 700

First, turn off the PC, remove the power cord from the back of the PC to remove the 115 volts then push the power button for a second or two so the capacitors will discharge. This is important because the residual charge can cause Motherboard damage especially when changing the RAM. You should follow this process ANYTIME you enter the PC case to make changes, etc.

To remove the side panel on a Pavilion 700x series:
Only one side panel allows access to the inside of the Pavilion case, the left side if looking from the front of the PC. The left side panel has knurled thumbscrews, not machine screws. Loosen the thumbscrews, they are designed to stay attached to the side panel, place your hand on the middle of the side panel and with inward force push the panel towards the back. The panel will slide and inch or two and you can pull it free. This proccess is easier if the PC is unplugged (push the power button on the front of the PC after pulling the power cord to dischard the capacitors) and the right side of the PC laying on the floor. This allows easy access to the left panel and allows light to enter the case from above to change/add the RAM you want to install.

Most likely, there are some screws on the back of the case. Unscrew them, and pull the casing towards you (when the front is facing away from you).

Acer l100 memory upgrade

I just attempted this, and I must say that there are many things about the other solutions that just plain wrong. Here is my step-by-step:
  1. Choose your RAM. Use the memory advisor from Crucial to tell you which ram to use: http://www.crucial.com/. I used their PC 5300 2*1GB kit. You can RAM from any retailer, as long as it is the same type recommended by the memory advisor.
  2. Lay the case flat and remove the screw in the middle of the top plate at the back, then slide the top plate off. You will probably have to break the warranty seal to do this.
  3. There are three black clips that hold the front bezel onto the top section. Prise them upwards and the bezel will come away.
  4. There is a black screw on the motherboard near the back, holding down a piece of metal attached to the top section (drive bays). Remove this screw, then pull gently on the plastic handle on the top section to loosen it.
  5. Lift the top section so that you can pull the power and IDE cables from the hard drive at the back, then lift it fully upwards. Be careful of the ribbon cable underneath, you may need someone to hold it up for you while you change the RAM.
  6. To remove the old RAM, do not simply prise it upwards as someone else said. The RAM slot has a metal clip at each side; push these outwards to the sides until they click. This releases the RAM so that they can be lifted out.
  7. Slide the new RAM into the bays and push it down to lock it into place. Make sure both sides click properly.
  8. Reassemble the case in reverse order, taking care to get everything stowed away in the right place. Take care remounting the front bezel to make it is properly in place before clicking the tabs back on top.
Hope someone finds this useful. By the way, while i can in there I noticed an empty expansion bay: anybody know what this is?
