Connect the RCA phono plug wires usually red and white wires with plugs to a receiver or amplifier in the back of it to phono in. New receivers will not work unless you have a phono preamp. Best to buy a vintage stereo receiver or amplifier with the correct connections. Make sure you connect the ground wire which is usually a small black wire coming from the turntable to an receiver or amplifier. Turn the stereo receiver on phono. Connect it to any screw attached to metal on back or look for a ground screw. If you do not attach it it will hum.

Does a sony ps-lx100 turntable need grounding, and if so where does the ground wire fix to on the turntable?

The best way to find out is to connect it to an amp and try it out. If you hear a hum noise then it will need grounding. If not then no. Some turntables have a screw terminal to attach a piece of wire. Any wire will do, just connect to say a metal pipe.

That is where the problem is, get a long insulated wire, bare both ends and attach one end to the turntable and the ground screw of the amp, use one screw on the chassis on the turntable and bare the metal for good ground connection.

What voltage drives the Sony PS-LX49P turntable ,for use with other equiptment

Turntables Usually Work Out Fine With A 12v Dc Power Supply.
But You Have To Check What Is Ground And What Is The Positive Supply. check For Ground With A Multimeter To The Platter For The Negative. Other Things To Look For Is It A Ribbon Connector
Or A Dc Power Jack From The Turntable, and The Signal Leads. hope this helps

Hum when turntable connected to phono sockets on amp

this turntable absolutely came with a ground wire that must connect to the gnd connection on the amp. maybe it got torn off or something but there should be clues on the back of the turntable as to what happened to it.

once the lead is found it must be connected to the amp gnd connect to get rid of the hum. this might require someone with soldering skilz or what have you in order rig up a new wire.

a tech might have to remove the bottom and solder in a new wire if it is cut or ripped off at the housing. This is common as people forget to unhook the gnd wire from the amp when moving things around.

This turntable has a built in pre-amp, under the platter is a on-off switch. Turn it to "on".
