It might need charging? Just a guess. Try charging it if you aren't already, or leave it for a bit. Good luck!

I had a similar problem with my laptop (you don't say if it is a laptop or a desktop). My laptop's fan was starting to die out and it was overheating.

Open up the pc (laptop or desktop) and used canned air to blow out any dust that will probably be in there blocking fans and whatnot. It could be as simple as that to keep it from overheating - if that was the problem.

If the machine is OLD, check if it has a backup battery that might be depleted. Beyond that I would suspect the power supply may have a problem with the power-on-reset circuit.

I have a model Q7C4 when turned on it immediately turns off again even if not connected to the computer (ie power only)

Most modern monitors will not run if the signal from the computer is not present. If you can borrow another monitor, see if it will work. If ok, the problem is within your monitor. If the new one doesn't work either, then the problem is likely the video circuit in the computer--a bad video card if it's a desktop, but a bad circuit IC if it is a laptop.

LG PC Flatron W1942S How do I turn on the monitor after it has gone into what I presume is hibernation mode? If I turn the computer off and then on again it usually comes on immediately but surely I should...

Normally the monitor will resume when the computer resumes. Under normal circumstances when the computer has gone into hibernation a brief press of the power on button will awaken it without shutting down the computer. If this doesn't work then you need to check your hibernation settings.
