I had a similar problem with my laptop (you don't say if it is a laptop or a desktop). My laptop's fan was starting to die out and it was overheating.
Open up the pc (laptop or desktop) and used canned air to blow out any dust that will probably be in there blocking fans and whatnot. It could be as simple as that to keep it from overheating - if that was the problem.
