I have a side X side GE Refrigerator Model TFX20JA not defrosting

About 2 weeks ago the frig was not cool enough. I discovered that the freezer was very frosted over. I defrosted it and got it going again. Today I found that it was frosted again.
I suspect the defrost heater failed, but am not sure if it could be a controling unit?
What do you advise?
