Open Question

What's the pinout inside the Dell adapter pa-10?

I have a Dell latitude D600, the charger whas beeping and not working. Someone repaired it for me, but he forgetted to connect the IDentification lead inside the adapter. I opened it (ofcourse without any power on it) and the white wire goes to the GROUND (negative), the black one goes to the V+ (positive). Next to the GND there is the ID hole, but which wire do i use for the ID ? I Founded this: and see only the black and white wire ... Whitout that the laptop battery won't charge and cpu runs on slow speed (600Mhz). Please help me if you have any advice for me =D

SOURCE: AC Adaptor DELL PA-12 checking

See what the output voltage the adapter says, it may be 19.5VDC @ 3.34A.
Set the Multimeter to read 20 volts DC or more.
Put the Black lead on the outside of the plug (negative), and the Red lead inside the plug (positive).
They usually have the positive as the hole in the plug.
Look at the reading on the meter, if the power adapter is working it will read around about the stated voltage but none of them are completely accurate. It may be a little more or a little less.
If it is nowhere near the stated voltage then there is a problem with it.

SOURCE: My Dell 6000 power adapter does not work

Dell's are the worst. First is the wire broken out sidde the box? Most I have repaired have broken at the plug real close to the end that plugs into the computer. Looks fine but the wire breaks inside the insulation. I slice the insulation back looking for the brake, cut each wire at different locations, so you do not get a large patch in the same place. Solder the wires back and tape them up = match color for color.

Sounds like the PSU connection has been broken from the motherboard.

Your laptop will be required to be taken in for service

SOURCE: I have a Latitude D630 laptop and I recently

Try updating to BIOS to version A16 from Ensure you are not attached to the docking station when flashing the BIOS. Once updated, connect the 90W adapter to the docking station, connect your laptop to the dock, and power on using the docking station power button.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 power problem. When the AC charger is connected the unit will power down by itself within 10 secs the most. If no AC charger connected, the unit is fine.

Please try removing the battery then attached the ac adapter and see if the same thing happens. It is possible that the AC adapter is faulty already if it doesn't isolate the issue. Please let me know if the result. Thank you and regards.

I can't get the computer to recognize the charger. It flashes between battery and charger unless the charger is being pushed in. I have tried numerous chargers with the same result.

With the charger unplugger, look inside the plug end that you plug into the pc. On occaision, the center pin may be damaged or pushed into the plug itself. That small pin is what provides the laptop the power (wattage) info. Also if you know anyone else with Dell charger PA-10 or PA-12, try theirs. Good luck!

Dell Latitude D600, installed new battery, but still won't charge.

Try to use another ac adapter or charger,.. If that doesn't work you'll need to replace the motherboard.

Usually this issue gets fixed by updating the BIOS of the computer but if the battery is less than 10% charge then you won't be able to flash the BIOS that will end up replacing the motherboard.

Dell D610 only can run on battery, not accepting AC power or from my docking station. I check the PA-12 AC charger and is working fine with other D610. Please help.

If not powering from DOCK, AC adapter and only from battery, since the Battery, DOck and adapter are known good, it is a matter of a motherboard replacement

I have a Dell Latitude D630, and I have had it for less than a year, and my charger is broken. I have it plugged in and everything, and it is not working. I plug the adapter into the outlet, and the...

sorry, i have to say this-- make sure the outlet works-- or try out a different outlet. :-)

ok, then make sure the connection is tight between the 2 parts of your adapter, it may have come loose.

other than that, you have a dead adapter. laptop companies are very good about replacing them for free under warrantee. they dont want fires starting at someones home because of a 30 dollar part.

i just called my laptop company, hp, 1 week before my 1 year warrantee ran out, and they shipped me a new power adapter, free, overnight.

call dell, tell them, they'll ship you a new one with usually free shipping, and usually in a day or two tops to your door.

Latitude Charger wrong

Firstly, you should try to use correct sentence structure.

Secondly, as long as it's a pa-10 or pa-12 for the d600 you should be fine. the chargers are not specific to each laptop, rather they are more specific to the dell product family(the type of power connectors on each).
