Re: whirlpool ADP4542 Flashes 7 times
If that's the clean lite flashing that is a fault code. That means the control sensed that the heater in the d/w did not operate 3 times in a row. so the unit locks out. First remove the kick plate and you may have to pull the unit out from under the cab, but check your heater. use a meter to see if it reads open, if so order a heater assy it will come with a new control replace it to. If your heater checks good press in sequence normal wash , heat dry ,normal wash, heat dry , normal wash , heat dry three times within 6 sec all the lights will come on then hit cancel. What that did is reset the control and clear that fault. Keep in mind that d/w does not heat it's own water your incoming water temp should be 120. the d/w will maintain that temp. when starting your d/w first turn on your hot water till it gets hot then start your d/w this insures your unit fills with hot water and not cold.

When the light flashes 7 times it means there is/was a problem with the hot water, including a bad heater element. Flip the breaker for a minute and hopefully that will clear the error; otherwise, here's a website that will take you through resetting it.
Hi Melinda, Thanks in advance for using Fixya.com. Now then firstly by pushing the heated dry and normal buttons then repeating is the proper procedure to reset the control board, below is a the exact buttons to push to reset the control. Also please take a count of the number of times the light flashes befroe going off breifly then repeats the same number of flashes; the number of flashes indicates a error code...if if flashes 5 times that error code 5 and if it flashes 7 times its error code 7 etc,etc.. please get back to me with the number of times it flashes. Here is what i copied and pasted from my online service manual for Whirlpool dishwashers that shows which buttons must be pushed to reset the board, after pushing the buttons shown push the cancel/off button and the board should be reset so the machine will start at least one time where ya can take note of the number of times the nirmal light flashes,
This machine was made by Whirlpool and the flashing clean light is a common error code for them.If
the clean light is the one flashing then your dishwasher could have a
heater circuit problem (depending on the age) or this could simply just
be water colder than it is used to getting.
Repeatedly press the Heated Dry and Hi-Temp Wash(scrub) which ever yours has until all the LED lights come on, press cancel twice and
try the dishwasher again making sure to run the water at the kitchen
sink till it is hot before starting the dishwasher, if this trips and
locks you have a problem with the heating element, or temp sensor. Press
the heated dry button followed by the normal cycle button, and then
repeat once. You should see all of the lights come on for a second or
two, and then the dishwasher will work again.
If you haven't
already, take a look under the kick plate in front to see if there is a
schematic tucked in there somewhere. Whirlpool has put their
diagnostics for specific models on these. I don't have the specific repair manual for you model. So, if the above combination does not work here are two more that have worked for me.
HiTemp Wash + Air Dry + HiTemp Wash + Air Dry in less than 5 sec or Hi Temp Scrub/Scour + Air Dry + Hi Temp Scrub/Scour + Air Dry in less than 5 sec
