Check the circuit breakers for a tripped one. If all OK, then the brushes may need to be replaced. Here's a tip on how to flash the field in the generator: This tip comes from the Briggs & Stratton Customer Education Department. As an alternative to flashing a rotor winding with a battery applied to the brushes, an electric drill may be used. Follow these steps to flash the generator:
  • Plug the electric drill into the generator receptacle. (Cordless drills do not work)
  • If the drill is reversible, move the direction switch to the forward position.
  • Start the generator
  • While depressing the trigger on the drill, spin the drill chuck in reverse direction. This will excite the field and the generator will now produce electricity. If spinning the chuck one direction does not work, try spinning the chuck in the other direction as you may have the reverse switch positioned backwards.
Use caution not to get your hand or other materials caught in the chuck. As soon as the field is excited, the generator will produce power and the drill will turn on.
The reason this works is because the electric motor in the drill will act as a small generator when spun backwards. The magnets in the drill's motor induce a voltage into the motor windings, which is fed back through the trigger, cord and into the generators receptacle. From there it goes into the power winding of the stator. The voltage going through the power winding creates a magnetic field, which is intensified due to the iron core of the stator laminations. The rotor intersects this magnetic field as it is spun past the power winding, thus inducing a voltage in the rotor winding. Once current flow is present in the rotor winding the rotor has been flashed.
If flashing the field does not make the generator work, you may have additional problems, besides a lack of magnetism in the rotor. Further testing will be needed. Hopefully, this will give a simple way to field flash your generator if needed

Why does my dyson dco7 animal always blow houe fuses

Because the motor is drawing more power than the circuit can safely deliver. If you have access to an ammeter you will see that the current draw is in excess of specs.

Either you have bad, binding bearings causing the motor to spin slower than normal and thus not generate enough back emf to reduce the current, or some of the motor windings are shorted to each other reducing the resistance and increasing current flow..

Also make sure that the bag is not full since that will also slow down the motor and cause a problem.

Why does the welder quit arching after 30 minutes?

Motors and generators are the same in this sense. The winding of a field coil is defective. The winding heats up with use and the winding expands causing it to short out and quits doing it's intended purpose. An hour of cooling allows the winding to contract thus clearing the short circuit. A good motor rewinder person can find the defective winding with an oven or heat gun and can rewind it for a fraction of a new welder generator.

Kohler Model 12RES LP gas generator starts normally but immediately shuts down with over-voltage alarm. Control panel replaced.

Sounds like a short in one of the windings to me. Can you verify that the engine rpm is not exceeding specs? If you can modify the engine speed Id say slow it down and see what the voltage read is.

I have a generator that does not produce any volts. I replaced the brush block because it was bad with no help. I took resistance readings of the rotor and stator. Are these in spec?? briggs and stratton...

As long as you have continuity through the stator and rotor windings, and no continuity from the windings to the core, you should be good.

If the brush block was replaced due to it being defective, take a look at the diode and capacitor regulator as well. Using a multimeter, the diode should indicate continuity in one direction, infinite resistance in the other. If you get this, then replace the capacitor. If not, then replace the diode, and likely the capacitor as well.

HONDA GENERATOR PROBLEM : SEPARATE MOTOR AND GENERATOR CONNECTED BY V BELT. MOTOR HAS TWO MODULES UNDER FLYWHEEL. ONE LOOKS LIKE ARMATURE THAT POSSIBLY SUPPLIES PRIMARY CURRENT TO THE HIGH VOLTAGE COIL---...

The armature (rotating field) is powered by the voltage regulator for 'excitation' which is the term describing a magnetic, revolving field. This magnetic field 'induces' voltage into the stator windings (stationary outer winding), producing voltage for use at the recepticles. Some older generators used a 'permanent magnet field, instead of using a powered winding from a regulator and the voltage and frequency were set by the RPM.
Frequency is still a function of RPM, but the voltage is controlled by the voltage regulator.

I have a kenmore elite 3 that flashes f06

"F06" is a Motor Speed error code. This could indicate a problem with the drive motor, motor control unit (MCU), interconnecting wiring, or the tachometer (part of the MCU). The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r714929-f06_error_whirlpool_duet_kenmore_elite

I would begin by checking all the wiring and connector plugs between the MCU and drive motor. Vibration from the washer can cause the connectors to come loose. Also check them for any signs of corrosion that may be causing poor contact.

Measure the motor windings to see if they are still within specs. Bad motor windings could generate the error code as well.

Read through the link provided and let me know if you have any questions. I hope this helps you.

You say the motor is fine, but have you measured the motor windings? If the windings are out of specs, it could generate the error code as well.

Dryer shuts off when releasing start button. Will run while pressing down start button, but no heat is generated. Sears repair man wanted to replace Even Heat Control Board for $350. I bought the part...

replace the motor, as you are holding in the start button you are making the dryer run in the start winding of the motor, it is designed to only stay in this winding untill the centrifigual switch on the motor automaticaily switches it to the run winding, when the motor switch knows that it is using the run winding it closes the motor switch contact for the heater to come on, replace the motor
