Kenmore HE3 lock latch stuck with door open

HI!!
I have a Kenmore HE3 that needs the CCU board replaced. In the mean time, while tinkering with it, I caused the seemingly spring loaded white plastic lock latch, on the inside of the lock, to become stuck with door open. The part has sprung into the locked position, and now is blocking the door, so it can not lock at all.
I have manually pulled the switch underneath, and it has no result. Any suggestions? Thank is advance!! :)

Thanks... the model number is 11045862400. I was tinkering around with it, and I caused the white peice of plastic on the inside of the latch, the part that hooks around to lock the door, to lock up. It seems as though I hit a spring or did something to mess up the tension. I have taken the latch out of the machine, but can not open it to see if I sprung something inside. Any suggestions?

I just had the same problem.I was able to fix it by removing the door lock as if you were going to replace it.
Look closely at the assembly you will see a series of clips that hold the 2 halves together . I opened them and separated the 2 halves you will have a long skinny spring release from the end with the door switch. save it you can put it back in when you put it back together. once you have it apart you will see where the locking mechanism has flipped and will not return under the stainless pin . use a pair of pliers to slide the pin out then pull back on the white manual slider and push down on the heavy duty spring mechanism. while it is pushed down you should be able to swing the door latch back into its correct position then reassembly in reverse order making sure you have the spring back in the switch and the solenoid (Brass part) engaged in the white slider. take it slow and take a few minutes to examine it when you open it and it will be self explanatory where everything goes. good luck

INTERMITTENT F-DL AND F-11 CODES

On Whirlpool duets, and the Kenmore HE series starting with the HE3 - HE5.
A common misdiagnosis is to replace the door latch when the user gets an F-DL error, or an F-11 & F-DL intermittently. If the machine shows an F-DL, and you hear a distinct clicking as the board attempts to latch the door just prior to the code appearing, the most common problem here is the door lock relay on the CCU. A good way to confirm is: after pressing start, while the CCU is attemting to latch the door, with the top cover removed, gently tap the top of the CCU with a screwdriver handle (or any blunt object) this will often free the relay. I've seen MANY door latches put in, only to replace the CCU a few days later.

F22 code ?? duet locks but will not run

Hi,

"F22" is a door latch failure error code. At the beginning of the wash cycle the door will attempt to lock several times. If the latch fails to lock, the washer shuts down and the error code is displayed.
In some cases, the error code can also be displayed if the CCU goes bad. There is a door latch relay on the board that controls the door locking mechanism. The CCU is not serviceable and must be replaced if defective. In addition, make sure all the connector plugs between the CCU and door latch are connected and snug.

Thank you !!

Kenmore model 110.42832.201 won't start, door won't lock - cycle selection button just flashes.

Hi, check you door latch. When you open the door, there should be a black square hole on the frame and a black round hole above it with a pin sticking out. The pin is probably broken off and the door latch assembly needs to be replaced.

Take care

Kenmore eliye f/dl code erroe ,changed mechanism and still doing it

If you've already replaced the door latch and you're still experiencing the "Fdl" code, the problem is the Central Control Unit (CCU). This is the main computer for the washer. There's a relay on the board that controls the locking and unlocking of the door latch. Sometimes the relay sticks, causing the error code to appear. You can try tapping on the board lightly with the **** end of a screwdriver at the point where the door latch connectors are plugged into the board to see if it frees up the relay. if not, you're going to have to replace the CCU. To access the CCU, follow these steps:

1. UNPLUG the washer.

2. Remove the top panel of the washer by locating and removing the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off.

3. The CCU is located top center behind the wash tub. Locate the connector plug(s) that run to the door latch. Unplug each connector one at a time and reseat them. Sometimes this can restore a connection where continuity is lost due to corrosion or oxidation.

4. Attempt to start a wash cycle and see if it works. If not, as the washer tries to lock the door latch, tap the board where the door latch connection(s) are.

NOTE: The washer usually makes 4 attempts to lock the door, before it errors out.

If none of these preliminary measures work, you will need to replace the CCU. If you can get the CCU to work, but still have to tap on it each time, you should replace it as well. This may get you by in the interim while awaiting parts (if you can get it to work this way).

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

I have found these sites to be reputable and provide great service. Prices differ between them, so shop and compare. The first three sites on the list also include exploded view diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the part(s) you need. The Sears website will sometimes offer a refurbished CCU for much less.

If you have any questions, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER (located on a nameplate on the door facing) so that I may be able to provide you with better assistance. I hope this helps you.

Have had F DL code and now F 11 code? I know FDL

"F11" is a Serial Communications error code. This means there is a loss of communications between the Central Control Unit (CCU), Motor Control Unit (MCU), and/or controls. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608695-f11_error_code

If you are receiving BOTH error codes, this means the CCU is not communicating properly with the door latch mechanism. This can be an indication of a broken door latch, failed CCU, or interconnecting wiring between the two. The CCU has a small relay on the board that controls the door latch. These boards are not serviceable, and if defective, must be replaced.

I would recommend you try these procedures first:

1. Remove the top panel of the washer by locating and removing the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off.

2. The CCU is located directly behind the wash tub. Trace the wires that lead from the door latch mechanism. In the area where the door latch connector plug is connected to the CCU, tap the CCU with a screwdriver. Sometimes the relay on the board sticks and the latch will not lock.

3. If the door latch still fails to lock, UNPLUG the washer and disconnect the door latch connector plug from the CCU and reseat it. Do that same thing on the door latch. Sometimes the connectors become corroded and reseating them can restore connectivity.

4. If you still have problems perform a continuity check of the wires that lead from the door latch to the CCU.

If the error code(s) still persist, most commonly this is a CCU failure. Since the control board cannot communicate with the door latch, both errors will be generated.

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between these sites, so shop and compare.

If you have any questions about any of these procedures, or need additional assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope this help you.

HE3 KENMORE ELITE. it gives a code F dl .

Hello, W/D here.

F dL is the code for a door lock failure.
Visually inspect the lock for any damage.
Usually the catch or strike is just loose, so tighten up anything loose. Next would be the wiring to the lock.
The connections may be loose or corroded. Clean to shiney and bright. Clean at the door lock and at the CCU (central control unit)
After that, I'd suspect that the door latch would need replacement.
You can locate your part at appliancerepairparts.com, or on-line.
If none of this worked, you'd have to suspect the CCU.

Best regards, W/D

Our he3 washer just clicks when you hit the start button and the door doesn't lock after several clicks the screen flashes and the machine just beeps . Ive changed the door lock once and it's doing it...

its a bad contact at the ccu(main control board located at the top of the unit). just remove top panel by unscrewing the 3 screws in back of top panel. the ccu is located in back right in the center of unit. replace the ccu. what happens is the contacts from the ccu are welded inside, so they must of broken off by vibrations of time. replacing the door lock will not help. replace the ccu and you should be good to go.

Kenmore He4t door lock error

No...the Main Computer (or CCU) is much more expensive than replacing the door latch. "Fdl" or "Fdu" are door latch errors and usually means the latch requires replacement. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r587965-door_latch_replacement_fdl_error

This is a very simple repair if you follow the steps provided. A replacment latch can be found at searspartsdirect.com or repairclinic.com. Just type in your complete model number in the search menu. If you require further assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

PS This does not mean that the CCU still may not have a fault. Its just much easier and less expensive to replace the latch first. More commonly, the latch is the culprit.
