Acer TravelMate 530 - CD Drive Upgradeable?

Have purchased an elderly laptop as above. The CD drive appears bent, CD's at times can be heard rubbing? against the inside, is seen to be not level in it's site. Is it possible to upgrade to a DVD-R & CD-RW drive for this laptop? Or am I just dreaming?

Hi

Thank you for your query

Please try the folowing

Please try the following

1) Start Laptop
2) Continuously press the F8 key until a startup menu is repsented
3) Choose safe mode from the menu
4) Once safe mode has loaded up click on Start>Programs>Accesories>System Tools>System Restore
5) From system restore choose 'restore my computer to an earlier time'
6) From the calender presented please select a dat in bold lettering back a few weeks before this fault was seen
7) Choose the date and click next..............follow the instructions through

If the system restore fails as above then unfortunatley you will need to purchase a copy of windows and reinstall by putting the CD into the drive and rebooting the laptop

I would recommend using your recovery cd to solve the issue. if you don't have one then it would be best to do a fresh install of the operating system from another cd. if you need to save your files you will have to remove your hard drive and connect it to another computer via usb hard drive enclosure to save your info then place the hard drive back into the laptop and install a fresh copy of windows

How to reformat my laptop? I don't have Cd rom, no floppy disc, its notbooting in usb flash drive, i dont have external optical drive. Whatshould I do? Thanks in advanced, acer 340t travelmate

If you could go to Avira and download there rescue disk on the flash drive, plug in the flash drive while the lap is off and start it with flash in.

Then you can run the rescue in dos( dos is before windows starts)
You said you could not because of windows, this rescue will scan
the entire hard drive, and if you have something like a rootkit, virus, trojan, Avira will kill it. Avira is the second best anti-virus software
on the planet.

Tap f8 when you lap starts to bring up the boot menu, and pray
that the flash drive is listed.

Upgrade your memory because 256 will not cut it! You have to share 64mb with your video and makes it smaller.
DDR333 SDRAM standard, upgradeable to 2048 MB
with dual soDIMM modules

ctrl+shift+esc will show you

Your expansion card type: Type I/II PC Card Slot

Sounds like you have a CD or DVD in your CD or DVD drive, or if you have a floppy drive, a floppy in it.

If these are empty, Put in your recovery CD and see if it reads that.
