Question about RCA D52W19 52" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

RCA D52W19 52 in.

I bought this tv for my husband 2yrs ago, we recently moved and the tv got a slight jarring. when we went to plug it in the pic was purple. paid 75.00 for someone to tell me the green tube was bad. after a long battle with rca i got them to give me the part{still under warranty but not the service}which then voided the rest of my warranty. my husband and i took apart the tv and with a lil nudge we have a green and a great pic. so if we get this with fooling with the green pic componet could it be something else? 3 diff. repair ppl gave me prices ranging from 300. to 600. how hard would it be to replace it ourselves?

Replacing any or all of the crt's in a proj TV is a difficult challenge for any qualified technician. It's not something normally done in the home either - because of the adjustments and tear-down required. I'm assuming you have a crt that does not have the cooling chamber already on it. And therefore you'll need to attach the cooling chamber and fill it with EC (a clear fluid similar to anti-freeze) that keeps the crt from overheating. Then there comes the job of alignment. I would assume you don't have a pattern generator or some of the other equipment you'll need. I applaud your abilities thus far but here's where I'd STRONGLY recommend you get a reputable shop to do the install. If you would like some help finding one call NESDA (National Electronic Service Dealer's Assn.) and ask about member shops in your area...

Not getting a picture but power is on and hearing a noise in the back of t.v.

If it is a LCD TV they have a projection bulb in them that can burn out after a time. Or if the TV has been moved recently it is possilbe that the bulb was jarred loose. Check the owner's manual for more info.

Won't power on

my d52w19 chassis itc222 as posted most of the time wont turn on and the green light flashes three times every time it makes a small noise. sometimes it does turn on and you hear a little pop and the tv fires up.  latley there is a really high pitch noise that will slightly change pitch if you move the tv or put slight pressure on the top or botttom rear part of the chassis. thanks for the help as I have seen that this has been posted before without mention of the high pitch noise.

RCA HD52W59 Turns Off

Hi, Based on your post/description, my guess is a loose connection or a cold solder problem (higher probability). Not unless you want to make another "30 mile trip", you have to find a local tech who is comfortable working with live/hot sets. The usual precaution on working with live/hot units and HV applies. This involves opening the back cover, powering the unit and with a foot long + insulated rod (I use a broken fiberglass fishing rod), poke around the inside of the TV, part/move the wires about, also press on the boards slightly. The idea is locate the loose connection or the cold solder. Soon as located, poweroff and resolder. If there is a component/board failure, the unit would not have operated intermittently. There is a big chance that the loose connection or cold solder just worsened and that cause the recent "chosen not to work". Further, the power light still turns on and you have not posted any other indications such as a beeping sound or blinking leds/lights which normally indicates failure. Hope this be of assistance/idea. Post back how things are or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.
