Hi, I want to remove the internal hard drive so I can install an OS on an external USB drive. I'm looking for the manual that describes how to remove/disconnect the internal drive. Thanks and Regards, Onno

William, your device has two "cards" in it...an external card where you can save not only data, pics, etc., but also install certain Apps onto AND it has the internal card (or "hard drive", if you like) that the Operating System and most of the Data is on.
The sdcard2 to which it's referring is the external card (the one you can remove)...the internal will likely be labelled something more akin to "system" where the ROM is stored, it's mounted read only so you can't normally write there OR sdcard0 (zero) which is an emulated sd card, so even if it's part of the same physical storage, it's seen by the os as an sd card.
Just for the record, some manufacturers choose to not enable "move to sd card" for the emulated sd card, some enable it, it's not a bug just a choice. Hope this helps!!!
Make sure you are connected to the Internet so you can download the latest copy of Mac OS X.
Use an app like SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your internal hard drive to an external drive. This enables you to access all your old files, and the drive can be re-cloned to the internal drive if you want to restore your Mac.
Deauthorize your iTunes store account. (You should also deauthorize any third-party apps, such as Photoshop, that are locked to your Mac).
Turn off FileVault (if you are using it).
Sign out of iCloud.
Restart the Mac in Recovery Mode (hold down Command and the R key during restart).
Use Disk Utility to erase the hard drive. Click on Disk Utility > Continue. Select the main volume and click Unmount then Erase). Quit Disk Utility (Disk Utility > Quit Disk Utility).
Click Reinstall OS X and Continue. Follow the instructions to reinstall Mac OS X.
When your computer failed to boot from the disk-drive, it tried to connect to a network-accessible "boot-server" via the Ethernet adapter.
However, if there's no cable connected to the computer's Ethernet port, you will get the "check the cable" error-message.
So, your real problem is "invalid partition table", which means that the very first record on the disk-drive is either missing or corrupt.
That first record contains the "partition table", which lists the size of the hard-drive, and the size of each partition (usually only one) on the hard-drive.
So, you'll need to buy an adapter that has a USB-plug on one end, and a connector for your "SATA" or "IDE" hard-drive at the other end.
Remove the hard-drive from your computer, attach it to the connector, and plug-in the USB connector to a USB port on another computer, and then use software to delete and then reconstruct the partition table.
Or, the hard-drive is failing, and must be replaced (maybe under warranty???).
seems like a hardware problem...Hard Disk Probably.but don't take chances...first remove any external hardware attached [usb, printer etc.remove the battery also]then try to install the OS use another CD or you can even use Windows XP.Make sure you change the SATA setting in the BIOS for XP.
You did not mention the error message or when does it hangs while installing Vista.Try changing the Hard Disk.If there's still problem then it's your motherboard.
As far as overheating is concerned you need to see how long does it remain powered on.And when you switch it on again does it turns off quicker than before.
Take it to the service center.
XP can not be installed from usb as the bios does not enable it. Plug the ide hard drive into an older desktop system and install from boot on cd. Once all files are copied over then you need to copy the i386 folder over from the cd. Reinstall the hard drive into the toughbook and carry on the install from there.
You can use an external USB drive, either CD or DVD dependent on your OS media.
I used a Phillips drive, with external power supply, to restore to factory settings using their restore CDs. I also installed Windows Vista Ultimate from DVD, without issues :)
At this moment I have taken the HDD out of the case, bought an adapter for its 1.8" interfce and proceeded over the USB. I was, however, installing Linux, with practically no experience with Windows.
External HDs are not usually recognised on boot, however some external CD drives are..
although most of these type of devices have a built in recovery partition, which should allow you to restore this tablet back to factory without having to resort to loading from external devices.
try pressing f10 or f11 on boot or look for other messages on bootup to press a key combination
if all else fails try looking for instructions on factory reset from the manufacturers website
