Memory Problem Fuji FinePix A330 Digital Camera The camera works with a 16MB xD-Picture card memory but won't work with a 256 MB xD-Picture card memory. if you take the first shot it seems to work OK but when you take more pictures you get a 'write error' in the display and if you try to view the pictures you get 'read error' in the display when you use the 256 MB memory card. Also when you go to the Menu, the Shooting Mode choice is missing

Re: Memory Problem

May was a long time ago - you may have solved this by now...
A330 cameras only accept certain types of xD cards.  If you have a type 'h' card, it won't work.
I have a card that says "H512mb" and it's useless.  You can only use cards with no letters before the card size or type "M"  cards.  With a type "M", you need to upgrade the camera firmware.  Read directions here:

Re: Memory Problem

Have you tried formatting the card first within the camera, as it may be corrupt, or try it in a card reader and format that way.

I have just bought a second-hand A330 fujifilm digital camera and was wondering what memory card I need to buy for it as I am aware that some do not work in these cameras?

Your camera takes an xD picture card. I think 128mb is the maximum the camera can take. Stick with the major brands such as Lexar or Sandisk.

Yes it has to be an XD. They are physically different in size and shape. Although they both use JPEG photo formatting.

How do I initialize a new xD 2GB memory card for my A330 Fuji FinePix camera?

Your A330 is not compatible with the XD cards that start with an "H" or a "M" before the XD designation, unless you perform a firmware upgrade. You can do it yourself using this link from Fuji Canada.

What type of memory card are you using?  Is this a new problem since you've started using a new memory card?
The A330 can't use some of the newer types of xD cards.  These have letters before the file size like "H512mb" or "M1gb".
You can only use plain xD cards with no letter in front, like the small 8mb or 16mb card that came with the camera. Or, you can download a firmware upgrade to us type "M" xD cards. Read about that here:

Or, if a new memory card is likely not the problem, you could try re-initializing the card.  Make sure to copy any pictures from the card onto your computer first.  Re-initializing will erase all data from the card.
In the Menu, use the right button to go over to "Set".  Arrow up to choose "Set-up".  Then arrow down on the "1" screen to "Format".  It will step you through reformatting the card.
Hope this helps, -Kelly.

Help with write error

Are you trying to use a new xD memory card?
The A330 will only accept xD cards with no small letters before the disk size.
I have a card "H512MB" and can't use that one. There is a firmware upgrade to allow you to use a "M512MB" card.
You can see what version of camera firmware you're using by following the instructions here:

Also tells you how to download the upgrade to use type "M" xD cards.

512 MB card problem

If the new 512mb xD card has a prefix of "H" or "M" before the 512, it is not compatable with your A330 unless a firmware upgrade is performed on the camera. You can download all the details here

Memory Card Problem

I've solved it.
I'll bet a buck you also bought a memory card reader.
If you hook the memory card (or camera) to a computer, you'll see a directory with a name like fuji_999.
After you download the pictures delete that directory from the memory card, and the problem's solved.
I just did it with a 1 gig xd card in my daughter's fuji 480. It had a main directory on the card called DXsomething, and 2 subdirectories, fuji_100, and fuji_999.
I deleted all three directories (after saving the photos), and the problem is gone.
Hope it works for you.
