SOURCE: Clean Lint Filter Light Keeps Dryer from starting

Evidently the fuse blew for some reason.
Keep the dryer unplugged from power for one hour or so. If it still does start, you will have to take apart the dryer, check the fuse, check the thermal fuse, and test the wirings inside.
If you need to call arepairman use the number listed on the owner manual.

SOURCE: Clean Dryer Lint Vent in Kenmore elite HE4

If you wish to clean the interior cabinet of the dryer follow these steps:

1. UNPLUG the dryer. Dangerous voltages are still present even with the dryer turned off.

2. Open the dryer door and remove the lint screen. IMPORTANT: You must remove the lint screen first in order to remove the blower fan housing.

3. Remove the lower toe panel directly below the dryer door by removing the screws under the bottom front edge of the panel. With the screws removed, the panel will drop down, then come off. NOTE: For better access, you can prop the front feet of the dryer up (a 2x4 works well).

4. Loosen the screws on the blower fan housing directly below the drum and remove. There's usually a small clip holding the cover in at the bottom that you may need to pull out to release. NOTE: You may also have to disconnect the auto dry sensor plug (yellow wires with white plug - use a small screwdriver to release the locking tabs) and/or ground wire to accommodate removal of the cover.

You should now have access to the dryer interior and the blower fan squirrel cage motor. Take the time to clean out the blower fan housing cover as well. A long bristle brush made for dryers works well at removing any lint inside the dryer in the hard to reach places, followed by vacuuming.

NOTE: After cleaning, you may experience a slight burning odor. This is normal as lint gets stirred up in the cleaning process and can settle on the heating components. The odor should dissipate after a short period of use.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: Dryer "clean lint filter" message

Hello. Begin by unplugging the plug on the dryer. Then pull out the filter and thoroughly examine the space that the filter slides into looking for any lint. Remove any lint that you find. Put the filter back and lastly plug the dryer back in.

These steps should solve the problem. If not, then the lint sensor has gone bad and should be replaced. If you wish to do that yourself you can go to searspartsdirect.com. Enter the model number of the dryer and then you will see the parts diagrams allowing you to locate that lint sensor, and even order a new one. Joe

Dryer heats but clothes wont dry and have checked lint screens front and back. How much "air flow" should be coming out the back of the dryer?

Do not use this dryer until you fix it. You need to check the pipe or flexible tube that comes out of your dryer (where the hot air comes out). Even though you clean your dryer lint trap some lint gets by. If you can get to it, go outside and find the opening where the dryer air comes out of your house. Then open the little door and look inside but not when the dryer is running. If there is any lint inside clean it out. Then disconnect the air outlet from the back of the dryer and inspect. It should be free of lint. If it is full of lint clean it all out. You can also call a pro to perform the inspection and cleaning. Good luck.

We have a combo dryer and washer. Washer is A2444330KH. Leaves lint on cotton shirts, have cleaned the filter no help. Any ideas? David

Dryer lint not only presents a problem by cluttering up your clothes with white specks, but it can also lead to a dryer fire. While it is impossible to completely eliminate dryer lint, you can take action to drastically reduce lint and the potential problems that come along with excess dryer lint. If your clothes take more than one cycle to dry, you see no lint on the lint screen, the clothes are very hot after drying or you find excess lint on the clothes after drying, you probably have a problem with accumulation of dryer lint in the dryer vent.
Use a dryer vent cleaning brush and clean the dryer vent, or hire a professional to clean the exhaust vent behind your dryer. If your dryer vent is clogged, it will create excess dust in the dryer and on the clothes. The excess lint can eventually catch on fire given the heat load of the dryer.

My dryer is taking forever to dry clothes. Very damp and a lot of condensation when I open the dryer. It's model # MDE508DAYW

Good day,
Sounds like the vent system is badly blocked, the blower wheel has stripped off it's shaft, or there is a lot of lint in the blower wheel/lint screen area.
1. Remove the vent hose and see if your getting air moving thru smarty. Maytag moves a lot of air. If O.K. test dryer with vent off for performance. Clean or replace vent hose as needed.
2. Blower wheel sheared on it's shaft. You have to remove the front panel to see if the wheel is loose. Old version had 2 screws on the bottom of the front panel. Remove, disconnect door switch wires and remove. New style (no screws on bottom) requires a putty knife forced on each corner of where the top meets the front. About an 1 1/2 inch in from the edge. Force in, releasing clip, and pulling the top of the front panel toward you. Lift off.

Should the blower wheel be bad, replace but make sure the area between the blower wheel and door filter are cleaned.

Odor around the lint trap, cleaned but persists

The lint trap is an opening into the dryer vent and vent pipe. The dryer needs to be pulled out from the wall, the vent pipe disconnected and then the back of the dryer and the entire pipe cleaned of lint and other debris. this is the only way to get rid of the odor.

Dryer Noise

You need to have you belt replaced. Over time the belt will strech.
this causes the dryer to still spin but the belt will sometimes loose the grasp of the drum and cause the belt to spin only.

This happens because over time with heavy loads of towles and jeans pull down on the drum as it is being loaded. Than when in cycle the jeans will drop from the top to the bottom pulling aginst it even more..

Dryer screen

No. The accumulation of lint in the dryer screen generally doesn't have anything to do the amount that ends up INSIDE your dryer. Too little lint is not a bad sign. It's dependent upon the type of clothing you are drying as well. If the clothes are not "lint givers" (like cottons and wools), you generally won't see a lot of lint in the dryer screen. Dryer screens are not perfect, either and some lint always gets through. As long as there are no holes in the screen and you have it seated correctly, and you clean it after each use, you shouldn't have any problems.

What affects dryer performance the most, is your vent hose and routine cleaning. The simple rule of thumb is: The SHORTER and STRAIGHTER the vent hose the BETTER. The vent hose should also be cleaned thoroughly periodically. I recommend once per season. That's about 4 times per year. What causes the lint to back up into a dryer is when the vent hose becomes kinked or clogged. The lint is mixed with moist air when it leaves the dryer. If it has no where to go, it starts to accumulate and stick in areas of the vent hose that are sagging, or at tight bends. Eventually, the vent becomes so restricted that the lint ends up inside your dryer. This causes the heating circuits to overheat to eventual failure. Not to mention, accumulations of lint inside a dryer can cause a fire. I have personally inspected dryers that were so full of lint that the dryer hose contained about a gallon of water from condensation and the inside showed evidence of multiple fires. If you need further info, I have an article I wrote up explaining all of this under "Tips and Tricks" under my profile. I hope this helps you.
