Question about GE Washing Machines

1 Answer

GE Top Loading washer doesn't aggitate properly.Model # WJSR4160DW

When washing on the Normal/Fast cycle it aggitates slowly or stops & makes a Humming sound. When washing on Easy Care cycle it seems to be Ok. Hard to tell because I cant open the lid without it stopping but it doesnt seem to be humming on the EasyCare cycle. I haven't tried the delicate cycle. I also have tried these cycles with Less articles in the washer. I did research on this & I'm comming up withit being the DRIVE BELL. Any Suggestions???

Since I posted this last night I had learned how to remove the magnet from the lid & place it on the other magnet so I was able to leave the lid open while watching what it does. Today the agitator was barely moving on the easy care cycle as well. I put a few items in & I noticed the difference with the agitator slowing down & stopping! As far as Your question about moving the agitator, YES I can freely move it. Not in a 360 complete circle but YES its moveable & I can lift the agitator itself out with no problem. THANKS for helping me.

Reach into the washer and try to turn the agitator by hand and if you can turn it freely the agitator coupling (sometimes called the air bell) is stripped out. If that isn't the problem let me know. Here is the part should you find it bad.

Yes, you will need to replace the drive bell. I posted the link in my other post. Here is a video to show you how to replace it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vM5vQN9mZ...

If the agitator comes right out then disregard that last post.

  • Christine Hedrick Nov 03, 2012

Your saying I should replace the drive bell? I have already removed it & to me the teeth look ok, but I will give it a try. How would I know if My Agitator itself might be bad also?? Thanks again for Your help!

  • Christine Hedrick Nov 03, 2012

I'm confused because your telling me to disregard that last post which is telling me its the drive bell.

  • Richard Roth
    Richard Roth Nov 03, 2012

No, not disregard the post with the part, the post with the video to show you how to remove the agitator. You said you can remove the agitator correct?

  • Richard Roth
    Richard Roth Nov 03, 2012

You need to replace the drive bell.

Look on the inside bottom of the agitator to see if it's stripped out. You can also put the agitator on the new drive bell to see if it holds.

  • Christine Hedrick Nov 04, 2012

ok, I took my agitator & drive bell to parts store with me so I could compare them to a new one before purchasing. The man said my drive bell wasn't stripped & that Maybe my agitator is bad. However he also said if I am able to wiggle that shaft that the drive sits on that the Transmission is bad. He said you shouldn't be able to move this. Is This True?? If so I know it's cheaper to buy a new washer, or maybe not cheaper but the best thing to do..

It could also be the tub bearing. What part of the country do you live in?

I use to live in Toledo! OK, what I would do is buy a used Whirlpool model. Kenmore, Inglis, Roper, etc. Look at this I found on Craigslist.http://dayton.craigslist.org/ppd/3386835... GE is really a bad washer to have. They don't have a good track record at all. On a Whirlpool, they don't break down that often and when they do they are an easy fix and the parts are cheap.

You bet! I'm glad to help. Also, if you find one at one of those repair guys that arwe selling them, get them to use your GE washer as a trade in. Most repair shops here do that.

Any washer that has Super Size or Extra Large Capacity on it is what you want. I think yours is the Extra Large.

  • Christine Hedrick Nov 07, 2012

Bears Fan here!! Ok well I went ahead & ordered an agitator & drive bell. I figured I cant go wrong trying it out First since I can send them back If not the issue! I cant help to think that since everything else is working great & since the Drive bell agitates well without the agitator on it I have to try it out before making a decission! Once again I appreciate Your HELP !! Thanks!

  • Christine Hedrick Nov 08, 2012

Ok I just replaced the drive bell & agitator & everything seemed fine. I ran it through a cycle first without clothes in it & then added a small load. It was doing GREAT, actually seemed to be agitating Better then it has for sometime. Towards the end of the cycle I heard a "Clank" & hurried to look & it stopped agitating & spinning ( never had the spinning problem) it smelt like rubber burning so now were going to take it apart & see if Maybe the belt broke. If the belt was worn out replacing the drive bell & agitator like I said seemed to be agitating better maybe the belt couldn't uphold it? I'll let ya know the outcome. Thanks!

SOURCE: Kenmore washing machine model 110 wash cycle stops

DOES IT DO THIS ON EVERY WASH OR SOMETIMES? IF SOMETIMES, CHECK LID SWITCH( THERE'S A LITTLE HOLE WHEN YOU OPEN THE LID, ON THE LID SHOULD HAVE A LITTLE PLASTIC PIECE THAT GOES IN THAT HOLE. THE SWITCH IS UNDER, INSIDE THAT HOLE. YOU CAN GET A PEN OR KEY TO SEE IF IT'S BROKEN.)

I have a GE topload washer, I think the model # is WBSP1060T( there were three model # on the washer-VVSRV1040V & YVSR1040V were on there too) any way the water will not stop filling no matter what...

as to the filling issue this would either be the pressure switch or the hose that goes to the pressure switch to the tub has come off if you have any further questions message me back and please remember to rank this opinion it allows me to help others in similar situations Thanks Rick
p.s the starts agititating is normal when the lid closes it is engaging the lid switch

Washer doesn't spin GE WCSR2090

does it aggitate??

the safety button is most likely broken, you can see the small hole where the figer pushes down to stop the spin cycle, if the washer does not aggitate, then most likely it the safety switch.
get it replace, or bypass(not adviseable) but only when you need it,
Water that doesnt move tend to get stinky fast!

Top loading washer that won't aggitate, or rinse.

without knowing more details, and considering it's age , my guess is that you have a disconnection (or a loose wire) to the solenoids under the tub. these solenoids activate the clutch system that pulls it into agitate and spin modes. it might be the solenoids, but rarely do both go out at the same time. it might be the timer contacts or connections behind the control panel. or, it might be the timer its self.
try unplugging the unit and check all the connections.
hope this helps jay

Loud noise when aggitating code says motor not rotating properly

It's noisy Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.
or something stuck up in spinning motor assembly.

thanks and plse do not forget to accept the solution.

Kenmore series 70 washer won't stop agitating when lid Is lifted.

I have a Series 80 and when I lift the lid it does not stop aggitating when in wash mode. When I lift the lid it does stop spinning when in rinse mode. As designed.

To stop wash-mode aggitation at lid-lift, using the existing lid switch and other electrical components, is not easy and not recommended. I can think of a way to do it (triple-pole lid switch) but I will not detail the idea .. for safety concerns.

To stop aggitation, simply use the main settings dial control. You'll save money and possibly prevent a fire hazard!
