Question about Garden

Open Question

Ryobi 970R I am having trouble keeping the 4 stroke trimmer running. It will run with a slight touch on the primer bulb but will not stay running. Seems like the fuel needs a little extra pressure to get to the carb. I have replaced the gaskets, diaphram parts, primer bulb, filter & lines. Any other suggestions? Also how many turns out for the High & Low screws?

Hi sounds like the filter mesh inside the carby is blocked and the diaphrams may be hard and not pumping fuel

My Ryobi 4 cyl 30cc leaf blower just quit starting. Has always started perfectly, but now it just wont start.

replace spark plug.if spark plug okay problem could be carburetor or air leak at fuel lines or check primer bulb for crack which cause air leak.any breaks in fuel line or primer bulb cause air leaks fuel system cause carb not get fuel run engine.

My Ryobi start great but when I change it from start to run stays few seconds and died

  • Alow the engine to run for longer on the start setting before you switch to run
  • Ensure air filter is clean. Foam elements can be washed with hot water and detergent. Paper elements can be cleaned with compressed air blown from the inside of the filter but ideally should be replaced.
  • Check fuel lines aren't kinked or blocked restricting fuel flow.
  • Ensure fuel filter isn't dirty. This is probably located at the end of the fuel line in the tank.
  • The fuel lines may have become airlocked. This can happen if the tank is run dry. If the trimmer has a primer bulb, alternatively press it several times and then try to pull start the engine with choke on. Repeat this several times. The primer bulb should feel spongy and fill with fuel.Once the engine kicks, switch to run.

I have replaced my ryobi whipper snipper fuel lines and now it won't stay running. What have I done wrong?

I have had exactly the same experience, and then also replaced the primer bulb, messed around with the carby mixtures, but so far it will not run for more than about 3 - 5 seconds! I have yet to resolve this problem.

You have a hairline leak in one of your hoses or a small gasket under primer bulb.

Ryobi weedeater 4 stroke starts but only runs for a second or so I can get it to run but not well and I have to have some choke on to do it

We have a Ryobi gas weed eater. We can get it started but it doesn't stay on. I took it in to get it fixed and he said it was the primer switch, which he replaced, but we are still having the same problem.
Can you help us or refer us to a Ryobi repair store? We live in Phoenix, Arizona but can go to any repair store in Glendale, Tempe, Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, wherever in Arizona. Thank you. Sally

I have a Ryobi 768R Gas Trimmer, I just replaced the primer bulb and gas lines and had it running fairly well. It stalled on me while I was adjusting it and I can't get it restarted. I'd like to know what...

sorry not familiar with the 768R is it a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke?

Starting points for the HIgh and Low on 2 stroke carbs is about 1 full turn out for each

My prime button broke can i bypass it

No, you cannot bypass it. Even if you could get it to run without the bulb there would be a significant chance of fire and injury. Replacement Ryobi primer bulbs are very common, you can get one just about anywhere...in fact, you can go to Google, put in Ryobi and whatever the model number is of your trimmer and the words primer bulb and you will get plenty of hits for parts companies that carry the replacement bulb.

I changed the fuel line going from the fuel tank to the primer bulb and now my weedeater will not stay running and my primer bulb is not holiding fuel.

Make sure the fuel line is a good fit to the carb. ... If is sucking any air at all it won't run right.. Also check that the fuel line in the tank is still hooked up...

Ryobi 31cc lawn trimmer carb adjustment

As with all 2 strokes if you have compression and a reasonable spark, you only need fresh fuel with correct oil ratio) and they must go !(as long as you haven't fiddled first and all gaskets are sealing) I start mine by(1) pumping the primer till it is firm,(2) full choke,(3) pull till it kicks ONCE,(4) half choke, pull till it runs, allow to warm up and(5) switch to run (you may need to apply a bit of throttle while pulling as in (4)(or give it a few more pumps if it dies) If all is ok, check that when properly warmed up there is a smooth transition from idle to full revs, if it hesitates it may need the LOW SPEED mixture leaning (clockwise) SLIGHTLY.If it dies the LOW SPEED mixture may need richening(anti-clockwise)(adjust 1/8 turn at a time) Make sure that motor is just peaking at full revs and is on the RICH side of peaking (HIGH SPEED mixture)(this will avoid seizing it Adjust both till it revs cleanly and is JUST rich at full, and idleing nicely and it should start without too much trouble.(If you have fiddled and are lost,-about 2 1/2 turns out from closed on both needles should get you started)
