Question about Electrical Supplies
Crafsman 2400 watt generator star ok but only run for 45 sec.& it won't star again the motor is a briggs & stratton 5.0hp
I have a Craftsman Snow Blower with a Briggs & Stratton Engine. I had the same problem. I searched online and read a little bit about this run and stop problem. One solution was to put something over a piece of metal that separates the hot engine part from the other part of the other side of the engine. I used a piece of heat resistant cloth from Lowes in the plumping area where the torches are. It fit and worked. Engine keeps running. I ran it for over an hour last spring prior to storing it.

SOURCE: stops and starts
Most home standby generators are setup to run once a week so as to keep the engine lubed up and the generator windings dry. So if yours is comming on once a week at about the same time and running for something like 15 minutes, that's what is going on.
On the other hand, if your generator is starting and the switch is transferring somewhat randomly, you could have a problem with the neutral connection in your system, the power could really be going out and coming back on, and/or the control board in your generator could be broken.

I am assuming the generator worked fine before the oil change. Now that you have done the oil change the genset does not start. These generators have a safety switch, which is basically an oil pressure switch that keeps the engine from running when there is not enough oil in the engine. Make sure that there is enough oil and if there is, look for a wire that runs along side of the engine to a round component. disconnect that wire and try starting. If it does not start then try to ground out the wire to the engine block. If this does not work, then there is other engine problems.

The needle valve may be stuck which would not let gas into the carb. I don;t think rebuild kits are too expensive. Pull the carb and take it to a lawnmower repair shop and they should have the parts. Before that though pull the bowl and make sure it has gas in it. If no then remove the fuel line and make sure gas flows from it. If no then could be the fuel shutoff valve is not operating properly or junk in the gas tank is obstructing the line.
