SOURCE: The picture on my Toshiba

This model 65H84 is a rear projection type with three picture tubes. And if I am not mistaken is around 10 years old. So, if it is at least 10 years old then the picture tubes are getting weak and burned out, therefore not producing a bright enough picture. Typical with rear projection with age on them.

Chances are you have a defective hyper module. The symptom with this problem is called piecrusting and appears as a squiggly and distorted picture, usually worse at the top. It may dissipate after 20 to 30 minutes as well. This module has been out of production for a few years but some regional companies will rebuild it for around $125.

No picture--help

I'm assuming you are trying to view an input, like a DVD recorder or Cable/Satellite box?

If so then you need to check the connections. This problem usually occurs when there's a loose scart.

Problem with toshiba 65H84

Good Day, mowattearl;

The most common with this TOS TV is the failure of the convergence IC's, but rebooting, resetting first, unplug TV from wall for 3-5 minutes then plug back into wall. The "conv" IC's are STK's, large black devices mounted to a large heat sink on the verticle.

Good luck, big IRISH.

Dim picture from one broken lamp??

The red CRT is most likely not the culprit. If water got on to any of the boards such as the red CRT driver board it could damage it wich also at the same time can load down voltages (200 volts etc) that can have a global affect on the other CRT's. Changing any on the CRT's by the average consumer is NOT recommended because you are dealing with a device that requires 30 KV (thats thirty thousand) volts to make it light up. Take these as warnings and consult with a technician.
