SOURCE: I can't open the icons the desktop screen. When

Most likely the problem is that the association for .exe programs has been lost or changed, Commonly caused by malware/etc that tells you everything you have has a virus in it (super annoying)

Opey My Documents or My Computer, Select Tools ' Folder Options then the File Types Tab. Scroll down to where .EXE would be in the alphabetical order and make certain .EXE is not there (if it is, then edit it there by changing the association to Application). Finally, select the New button, type in EXE for the extension and select the Advanced button. From the list pick "Application." It should look something like this. associateexe.gif While not shown on the picture above there should be a "Restore" button you can click. If so, use that and, hopefully, this should cure the problem (thanks to forum member diginono for finding and posting this solution). The Restore button only shows up when there is a problem on the system.
If this works but there is still a problem with LNK files then scroll down to the end of this FAQ for a solution to that.

If that doesn't work, Here is the full page on it.

Office H&S 2013 purchased at Officeworks, installed on my desktop, but I need to put the icon on my screen. I find about 100 answers to Search on This PC -some updates others ? I had Excel on my

I assume you have Windows 8.1 as your OS. Unfortunately, the new OS doesn't add new programs to the Desktop, Task Bar or Start Screen. The best way to find the new programs is on the Start Screen. If you are in the Desktop, press the Windows key on the keyboard or the Start button in the lower left hand side of the screen. On the Start look between the Tiles and the Task Bar on the left side of the screen for an arrow that points downward. (You may need to move the mouse pointer.) This will bring up the All Programs list. Depending on your settings for the Start Screen, you may need to scroll past the Tiles for the non-desktop programs. Then you will see a list of Desktop programs organized by program manufacturer. All of the Microsoft Office software icons will be under the Microsoft Office header. If you right click on the Excel icon, you will be able to "pin" it to the Start menu or the Task bar. Repeat this for the other Office programs if you want them pinned. Another choice from the right click menu is to "Open File Location". This will open the File Explorer on the Desktop to the folder with the specific Office program. If you right click on the Application icon (the .exe file) and drag it to the Desktop, you will see an option to create a shortcut right there.

Once you have created the shortcuts on the Desktop or pinned them to the Start Screen, you may need to move them around. Just drag them to a more convenient location. On the Start Screen, all new Tiles are put to the very right hand side of the list. This may require scrolling several times to reach them. Holding the left mouse button will let you drag the icon.

I hope this helps.

(You can also find the Office Programs by just searching the folders - but that depends on which version of Office is installed. The default install has been the x32 version, start in the C:\Program Files (x86)\ folder. The 64-bit version will be in C:\Program Files\)

I downloaded free open office and can see it in my download box but cant see the icon on the desktop so i cant use it, what am i doing wrong? i use a compac presario laptop with windows vista.

Click the start button and in "Start Search" text box type open office.
If it has been installed it will show up in the search list.
Right Click the icon and a sub menu will appear. From the sub menu hover mouse over "Send To" and options will appear to the right. select "Desktop (create shortcut)".
Desktop icon should now appear from which you can run Open Office.

Congratulations on using Open Source alternative to MS Office!
Hope this helps.

I can't figure out how to remove shortcuts from the home screen of my LG Chocolate Touch. I can drag shortcuts such as calendar or calculator to my home screen so that I can simply open them in one touch....

go to your main menu, go to settings. go to displays. scroll down to "short cut bin" snd make sure it is turned on. a faded arrow will now appear on the right side of your display screen. drag the icon you want to get rid of to the arrow which will turn into a trash can.

hi that would be simple if you find the folder in which the web cam icon is located right click on the icon scroll down to send another window should open up on the side then click on desktop(shortcut) this should put the icon as a short cut on the desk top.
NB:
the icon that you right click on must be the icon that acesses & activates the crystal eye web cam.

hope this solves your problem.
