Question about Kohler K 304 Rite Temp Pressure Balancing Valve

Open Question

No hot water all of a sudden

I have a Kohler K-304-KS valve body with screwdriver stops. All of a sudden only cold water comes into the system. I took apart the unit till I only saw the back of it where the water from the brass part comes in. When I turn the hot water stop back on only a trickle comes in. When I turn the cold water stop back on, a jet of cold water comes out (as it should). How do I get the hot water to flow past the stop valve??

ITs not the pressure balance unit. i turned off both stop valves and removed everything up to the main brass valve assembly. then when i turn on the hot stop valve only a trickle comes in. when i turn the cold stop valve on I get a solid jet of water. something is wrong with the hot water stop valve?? I live in an apt bld and shutting off the main water feed is not a simple thing.

Dripping bath faucet circa 1985. Can't ID model but appears to have 2 screws holding front of casting to main body for disassembly . Faceplate is square in shape and black in color HELP!

  • 1 Close the hot and cold water valves in the cabinet beneath the sink to shut the water supply off to the bath faucet.
  • 2 Remove the bath faucet's handle to access the valve cartridge. The faucet handle is removed by first detaching the handle's insert cap using the tip of a screwdriver or utility knife to expose the handle screw. Remove the handle screw with a Phillips screwdriver, then pull the handle off the valve cartridge stem.
  • 3 Loosen and remove the cartridge valve nut with an adjustable wrench. Some faucet models retain the valve cartridge with a snap ring and are removed with snap ring pliers.
  • 4 Pull the old valve cartridge out of the bath faucet base, using pliers.
  • 5 Insert the new replacement valve cartridge into the faucet housing and replace the nut or snap ring removed in Step 3, using an adjustable wrench or snap ring pliers.
  • 6 Reinstall the faucet's handle onto the valve cartridge post, then secure the handle's screw, using a screwdriver.
  • 7 Replace the insert cap into the handle to cover the handle's screw hole.
  • 8 Turn on the hot and cold water valves beneath the sink to restore the water supply.

My hot water suddenly stopped flowing. I have a good water supply, the cold is fine. The water heater is full and is hot, but, no water comes from any tap. PLEASE HELP !!!!! Dennis K.

I had the same problem and I took out the two shut off/by-pass valves (unscrewed handle and removed cartrige) to find that lime build-up had virtually sealed the lines so that no water flowed!
Cleaned out the lime deposits and reassembled valves and water flowed once again.

    Fix a kohler faucet
most likely the gasket broke inside the lever, you have to replace it.
shut the water off from the angle stop (valve under the sink) both hot and cold.
use an allen wrench ("L" wrench) to remove the tiny screw around the lever, >>>>before you do that place a rag covering the drain for if you drop it<<<< after that pull the lever out, that will show the inside of the faucet. use an adjustable wrench to remove the actuator from the base. when you get that part out you should be able to see the damage to the gasket. At that point you need a phillips screwdriver to get the gasket out and back in >>>>take the damaged gasket to the hardware store<<<< and get a replacement you may have to change more than one. after you get all the gaskets in place, reinsert the actuator and don't forget to tight it up with the adjustable wrench. center it so it would dispense the same amount of hot and cold water, replace the lever reinsert the tiny screw with the "L" wrench. turn on water from angle valves and test faucet.
that should do it and save you about 300 bucks
if it works for you don't forget to rate me

    Kohler shower valve (hot/cold switched)

Just had this same thing, on this exact faucet. If you still have the manual, it has instructions on how to rotate the valve for back to back installations where one shower has the hot/cold reversed. Our contractor got ours in backwards the first time and I had to call and have them come out and rotate the valve this morning.

I dont know the modle fauset you have ,but it sounds like your cartridge has turned in the valve body. It should lock into place in the valve body with a tang in the cartridge and a slot or groove in the fauset body. If the whole cartridge assembly turns in the fauset it will couse this problem.
