You would have to either convert the DVDs to NTSC by ripping them to your computer and using conversion software, or you need to get a player that supports PAL and NTSC. Phillips has players that do both NTSC and PAL but it sounds like the one you have doesn't.
I have a Phillips DVP 5140 that does PAL and NTSC and is region unlocked.
There are other players on the market that do support it, but you will have to look around a bit.

Best of luck

I tried connecting my samsung dvd it has ntsc settings when i set it that it work very fine but when the dvd to pal it show black & white why

If you don't know what PAL and NTSC signals are I would do some reading. It will explain what is happening. You can't use a ntsc device and set it to PAL. It doesn't work like that.

Only black and white

If you are playing different region dvds, they can be of different color formats also
(US = NTSC, Europe = PAL). If your television is not multi-format then non-compatible
DVDs will play black and white. The solution is to purchase a mutli-format TV (accepts
both PAL and NTSC formats)

DVDs in PAL format

Hey LauraJPL,

Because PAL-format and Region 2 DVD's are primarily used in Europe, they generally will not be sold through Best Buy™ stores located within the United States or Canada. While U.S. and Canadian stores may sell some multi-region or region-free DVD's, the vast majority of the titles offered will be Region 1 NTSC-format discs.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

I have a philips DVD home theatre system HTS8100. Its fine except that NO dvds play in synch. I have checked them on my normal DVD player & they are fine. The synch button on the remote sometimes fixes...

Synch problems on Philips machines can be caused by the video output setting.

Usually there are 3 options for video output:
  • PAL
  • NTSC
  • AUTO
PAL & NTSC force playback in that setting, regardless of DVD format, and sometimes cause a time delay in the conversion.

Try changing this option to AUTO. IF you have a modern TV, it should allow both PAL & NTSC playback.

PAL problem

Hi!

The DVD player you have is only compatible with NTSC TV. There is no way of changing that to PAL.

It is compatible though with PAL discs. It will convert the video signal of a PAL disc to NTSC format.

Pal capture format

Out of page 26 in the manual: "When you select "preferences" from the list the following window appears on the screen. it offers some general settings for working with ProPix EVE. the check boxes under video standard enable you to specify whether the project is edited in PAL or NTSC." also from the manual page 30 - go to the drop down menu video device, clicking the button on the right gets you into the video input settings dialog box where you can configure the capture device. under the "video standard" pull down menu you can choose PAL. hope this helps, and check back soon because the manual should soon be online on this site. Good luck!
