SOURCE: WASHER STOPPED
Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly
Just as you raise or close the lid you should hear an audible click from the lid switch. It will be faint but audible. If you do not hear a click then there is a problem with the lid switch. See item 18 this link:
1. Unplug the washer.
You gain access to the lid switch by removing the 2 screws in the lower front panel then pull the bottom of the front panel toward you / outward then off. After that you will remove the 2 bolts (Item 20 of link above) and tip the top straight up from the front. The lid switch will be in the center of the back of the lid area inside the top panel.
If there is water in the unit select SPIN on the timer.
You can remove the 2 wires from the lid switch and jumper them together to see if the machine works. If it works the lid switch is bad.
Reassemble in reverse order....
If you still have problems after trying this just respond here and I will get back to you asap.

I would pull the 120VAC power cord to the washer for 10 seconds then power back up.
See if you can get into service mode. To enter Service Mode press and hold he Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or until the control beeps and the display reads “00”. If you can’t get into Service Mode I feel you have a Control Board issue/failure.
If you can get into Service Mode then go to page 15 of the SM and we want to try a Quick Service Cycle test. Follow the instructions to enter the Quick Service Cycle test and let us know the results. If the test will run it will take about 10 minutes.

I’m an owner of the FAV6800A LED console display version. You have the LCD console.
This issue could be related to a failed Control Board a failed Motor Controller. It could be related to loss of signaling to and from the lid locks.
What is your skill set level can you use a DVM to measure D.C. voltages in the machine?
If not I would recommend a knowledgeable repair service to help resolve the issue and that may be a challenge. But read on and maybe we can get you to look at the Left Hand Lid Lock,
You can raise the washer lid from the base to remove your clothes from the wash basket with this process and the Service Manual . Don’t break the Left Hand Lid Lock latche if you do you will need to replace the Left Hand Lid Lock. The machine only needs that Lid Lock to operate as designed.
Raise the top of the machine. Insert a flat blade putty knife approximately 2.5” from the left and right sides of the washer top, depress the spring tabs securing machine top to the washer base. See page 33 of the SM for putty knife insertion point.
Diag code 4 for both machines = The lid fails to lock. Look on page 25 for the error code description in then points you to this “”Go to "Will not unlock" Troubleshooting Section””. Confusing right?
I think you could have corrosion issues with the Left Hand lid lock. If you want to DIY this part of the machine see this post for Left Hand Lid Lock Troubleshooting.
Take a look and see what direction you want to go…..Rich

You’re in the FAV6800a/FAV9800A forum so I’ll assume it’s one of those models. You can do this from Service Mode the method I prefer less messy, just follow this process it’s in the SM but I typed out for ya.
To pump out the excess tub water while failing to complete spin cycle.
I would go to page 16 of the SM lower right hand part of page, Board Output Test and turn on the drain pump in service mode to pump out the tub.
Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”
Pressing the Delicates key will lock the lid. Now press the Presoak key the drain pump will turn on. Stop with the off button or hit the Presoak key.
Sorry to hear about the over fill. May be you have a stuck water valve or stuck pressure switch. If you want some help just verify the Model type…..Rich
