Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV27 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Open Question

Sony DCR-TRV27 DV camera -- won't record video, only sound.

Dear Experts,
I'm hoping that you can help. I have a DCR TRV27 Sony digital handycam that won't record video. I have made sure that the lens cap is off and all exposure controls have been reset. The viewfinder or on the pop-out screen only displays a black image (though the pixels seem to be refreshing). I can also change exposure settings of this blank black image using the menu options, but I don't see a trace of anything in front of the lens.
When I press "record", the sound is the only thing that is captured on tape. In playback mode, I have the same black screen.
The camcorder will playback previously recorded images (before this problem) when it is in VCR mode. All other options seem to be working. Let me know what you think! Thank you for any help or suggestions you can provide.

SOURCE: Sony TRV-19 Camcorder - Black screen in camera mode

Fixed it, at least temporarily I had the side off my trv250 examining it, especially the CCD connection. I had read the post about soldering a capacitor to pins 1 and 3 (from the left) on the bottom row. I didn't have the specific capacitor on hand, but I started touching some of the small ones I did have to those pins. I found that after I touched a 100uF, 10V cap to pins 1 and 3 the picture suddenly came back to life and stayed that way after removing the cap. I have no idea how long this will last, and I've set up the cam on a tripod in the livingroom with the LCD display facing me so I can monitor it. If you, like me, figure you have nothing else to lose, you might want to give this a try. Note: my camera was suffering from the green smeary horizontal lines problem, and wasn't completely black. I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not.

USB streaming does not work for Windows Vista. Use the firewire/ilink connection instead.

On the DCR-TRV27 I don't see a black roller on Error C:31:23 on Sony trv27

It probably fail off, which is very common problem, roller should be still inside of the camcorder. You also have to look for small white, lake tubing part that hold pinch roller on the shaft.

It powers on but then beeps & won't work

You need to remove write protect tab on the mini DV tape you are using in Handycam. If it still doesnt work after removing the tab then take out the tape leave the camera off for few minutes and try another tape (dont forget to remove write protect tab).

If this helps, please vote...thankyou and good luck!

All I needed was the correct software for downloading video and sound. And that happens to be the software that came with the camera.
