SOURCE: spin and agitate problem

Wald, a couple of things here, see if they apply to your situations. I have seen the speed selector switch on GE models go bad and send voltage to both, the high and low windings in the motor. This causes the motor to get real loud and but usually kicks out the overload in the motor. Another issue is the current jogging between the high and low windings causing a chunka-chunka-chunka effect. GE put out a motor kit with a new harness and start cap to correct this problem. Open the front panel of your washer by pusing in on the two clips just under the lid and pulling the front panel towards you. You should see the harness with the start capacitor on the right if you have the latest motor. If you are handy with a meter, you can check the white and white/red wire to the motor. If you have a steady 120 volts to the motor during this jogging, replace the motor with the new kit. back.

Washer wont agitate, pops breaker

Could be the gears/transmission for the agitate cycle are jammed, the motor then freezers, creates an overload and the breaker pops.

I have a Fisher

  1. Runs but Doesn't Agitate
    • Set the machine to spin cycle. Though the agitator may not function properly, the spin cycle still might, as they operate on different principles. If the spin cycle doesn't work either, then the problem is caused by a mechanism controlling both: the fan belt connecting the washer's motor to the agitator drum. The drum will have to be removed in order to locate the motor. In some cases the fan belt may simply have jumped its bearings or is too loose. In this case, fit the fan belt back into place. Otherwise the belt should be replaced outright. If the spin cycle works fine but the agitator still won't function, then the problem is caused by the agitator solenoid. This device makes the agitator drum shake and shimmy. Unfortunately, it cannot be replaced without the aid of a technician.
    Won't Turn On
    • There are a number of reasons why this type of washing machine won't turn on, but it's typically due to a lack of power somewhere along the lines. First, make sure that the washer is plugged in and that the circuit breaker hasn't been thrown. Many homes have more than one breaker devoted to the washer and drier, so there may be more than one that you'll have to look for. If nothing is wrong here, check the outlet into which the cord is plugged by using a working appliance like a lamp. If the outlet works, then look at the washer's power cord for signs of melting, heat damage or a break in the cord. Open the washer lid and locate the cutoff switch sticking up from the lip of the machine. Press it in; you should hear a click. If you don't, then the cutoff switch is broken and needs to be replaced or repaired.

    Wrong Water Temperature
    • Pull the washing machine away from the wall and ensure that the water supply hoses aren't bent or kinked. Make sure that both cold and hot water taps connecting from the wall to the hoses are completely open. Turn off the taps and disconnect the hoses from the wall and the machine. Take them to a sink or outside, and pry out the filter screens sitting just inside the hoses' mouths and clean them thoroughly. Push water through the hoses to ensure there are no obstructions. Should none of this fix the problem, then there may be a problem with either the electronic controls or the machine's inlet valve. In either case, this can only be reliably repaired by an experienced technician.

Kenmore washer machine cylce stopped in mid cycle

If your washer doesn't seem to work at all, check these:

  • No power
  • Lid switch

No power
Check to see whether power is getting to the washing machine. Is it plugged in? Has a fuse blown or is a circuit breaker tripped?

Lid switch
If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until you replace the fuse.
check these, if still the problem persists then let me know for further help.

Agitator not working 90 series model # 11026912691

Hello aksward,
Welcome to Fixya.

Here are some suggestions for any Kenmore washers

Let me know how it goes. I'm still thinking and searching my repair manuals!

Washer stops, won't fill, rinse or agitate

• Check the following:
Is the power cord plugged into a grounded 3 prong outlet?
Is the indicator on the Cycle Control knob properly lined up
with a cycle? Turn the Cycle Control knob to the right slightly
and pull to start.
Are the water inlet valve screens clogged?
Are both the hot and cold water faucets turned on?
Is the water inlet hose kinked?

• Does the water level seem too low, or does the washer
appear to not fill completely? The top of the agitator is
much higher than the highest water level. This is normal and
necessary for clothes to move freely.
• Has a fuse blown or is the circuit breaker open? If problem
continues, call an electrician.
• Are you using an extension cord? Do not use an extension
• Is the washer in a normal pause in the cycle? The washer
pauses for about 2 minutes during certain cycles. Allow the
cycle to continue. Some cycles feature periods of agitation
and soak.
• Is the washer overloaded? Wash smaller loads.
• Is the lid open? The lid must be closed during operation.
Washer will not agitate or spin with the lid open.
