Question about Electrical Supplies

Duromax xp4400e starter relay stuck

This generator is just over a year old. It runs fine and is easy to pull start. 2 weeks ago the electric start began to fail to operate occasionally. Now the relay just gives a single click when the key is turned.

The battery measures 13.2 volts (nominal full charge) When the key is turned, there is a single click and the starter motor does not engage.

  • Per Faye Nov 17, 2012

There is no fuel or breathing problem involved. The generator pull starts with no difficulty and runs without any problems. The problem is entirely limited to the electric starter system, which worked reliably until it suddenly stopped operating.

SOURCE: Honda EU3000is. 2 year old

I have a 5 year old EU300is that would not start with or without the battery. I went through all the usual such as gas, plug, oil, etc. The battery showed 12 volts, however, when tested further it would not hold a load. I bought a new American made battery and now the unit runs fine.

SOURCE: Generator has been running steady for 2 weeks. It

if it doesnt turn over how did you test the spark?

if i have read it wrong then always try a new spark plug, these can fail under compression but will spark happily outside the cylinder.
if it wont turn over then it could be siezed or dropped a valve.

How come my cart only runs about 15 minutes after changing?

it helps to know what make and model and year we are dealing with but this is fairly easy unless it is electrical if it is gas for instance a yamaha 1985 G1 golf cart like we own the starter/generator was bad and eventually it will no longer start at all. replace this and it should be fine first we thought it was the battery but after replacing that it still caused us issues so we knew next step was the battery wasnt getting enough charge so replaced start/generator. but like i said it depends on make year and model and if it is gas or electric. it can also be a relay switch. I also had a lawn mower that would run and shut off soon after starting and that turned out to be watery gas.. there are always 3 elements 1. spark 2. gas or 3. compression . that are involved in starting and you have to narrow down most often it is spark most people find that replacing the spark plugs usually gets them through each summer but if you have bad gas that can cause problems the least likely is the compression but if it is an old cart or was not taken care of then that can also cause issues. use this chart in the future to help resolve start issues it helps me many times . I hope this helps. 25338104-ft35htv4rkd0kmp4yjrdzdf5-2-0.gif

Engine wont turn over

You have asked a question which cannot be answered without a LOT more information. Like what do you mean, won't turn over? By hand? or by starter? And if starter, have you checked all electrical start systems? Have you TRIED turning it over by hand?? You should have done that FIRST before you ever tried to start it.

If you care about the condition of the engine after 12 years, you have a lot MORE work to do than worry about whether it will crank over. I had the same situation last year with a car that had sat for 10 years, and I worked on it about 2 weeks (off and on) before I ever hit the starter. (Hint: you do NOT want to suck in 12-year old gas and 12-year old oil. Another hint, pull all the plugs and squirt light oil - Marvel Mystery Oil, drain ALL the gas, oil and coolant and replace.) Oh, and by the way, when I finally hit the starter, it fired right up. Now get to work and check back in 2 weeks.

Kohler 12 RES - Unit fails to start occasionally. Attempting a manual start by placing switch in run position, cause a loud click, but no cranking. The panel says CC. This morning I put a jump start...

I finally solved the intermittant starting problem on my Kohler 12 RES by replacing the strater and the starter relay. I was also experiencing the occassional OC indication, red blinking LEDs on the ATS, and intermittent non-starts during the weekly exercises. The problem happened during power outages a couple times also. If I flipped the start switch between auto and run quickly the generator would occasionally start. Once started, the generator runs fine. I ordered a new starter, which included the starter solenoid. By the way, don't worry about the genuine part thing..the old starter was a Delco made overseas. I ordered a new starter online for $85 (6744N) and it was indentical to the genuine Kohler starter. Replaced the starter and it improved the problem but did not totally solve the intermittent starting. Ordered the starter relay (GM49746) replaced it and the problem is solved.

Starter/Fuel Pump fuse, or the Relay Fuse blow

the fuel pump comes on when you turn the key on the starter comes on when you turn all the way to start so i would think the short is in the fuel pump if it blows by just turning the key on

Honda EU3000is generator will not start with electric starter.

I'd say your battery in the generator is going bad or bad. They are very small and do not hold a charge for very long. The noise you heard was probably the starter shaft hitting the flywheel cogs. I doubt any harm was done as long as you did not repeatedly try to start it with the key. Why Honda put a battery in these is because they are intended for use in a campground setting, where they would be used on a daily basis and the battery would constantly charged. Whereas people like us buy them for emergencies only, they sit for long periods, and the battery goes flat, and the fuel clogs the carb and we get the surging issue. That's my 2 cents. When I brought mine home new, I Sta-bil'd the heck out of the gasoline, this past winter, on start-up, the unit surges. Of course the battery was flat.

Generator won't start & now starter will not shut off when it has power

I have seen this happen in cars- the problem is most likel the ignition unit -they do not spend a lot of money on them in production. So here is what is happening . When you are putting key in and out metal filings are being deposited inside unit- this is now causing a short and draining batteries. Start here. This happened with cars a few years ago and they were catching fire in driveways.Call dealer and get replacement ignition- should be cheap fix. Good luck.
