On my PS3, the game "The Orange Box" freezes when it tries to install game data. When I try to quit the game, it beeps three times, then restarts. If I try to shut it down, it freezes with no sound or video.

This is a common problem it is most likely a scratch but you may want to try wiping the disc down with a piece of cloth, or it could just be some corrupted data on the disc so you may just need to buy a new one
I have the same issue, i thought it was just the original disc, so i took it back, got it replaced, but even the new disc does it.
I erased all NBA LIVE 2010 data off my hard drive as i thought it might be a corrupted save or something, but even on new saves it still does it.
It will skip for about 30 seconds, then just freeze, except the crown audio keeps playing.
One common problem that video game players have all the time are scratched discs. A helpful way around buying a brand new game or a disc scratch remover, is to first: a.) Borrow the same version of the game from a friend OR b.) Rent the same version of the game from a store Now, take the unscratched disc, and install it to your hard drive. And lastly, now you can put in the scratched disc and go to "Game Library", choose the game, and select "Play from Hard drive." The reason this trick works, is because when you play your disc from the hard drive, it uses minimal memory from the disc itself. NOTE: Installing a disc to your hard drive does NOT replace having to put in the game to play it. You still need a copy of the game in order to run it from your hard drive. I believe this is some security feature so people don't go around copying the games and not buying them. Also, I would NOT install the scratched disc to your hard drive, for this will not help your problem at all.
It's freezing as it tries to connect to the EA servers.
If you want to play single player, sign out of the PSN before starting the game.
If you want to play multi-player, at the moment it seems you can't, join the club :(
Quite a few people are having problems, not just on the PS3 http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/330817.page
Hire buy borrow a copy of army of two and put that in accept ea's terms and conditions load the game up then quit and put mercs 2 in this will sort the mercs 2 freeze problem when connecting to ea servers. Having had and donethis myself i know it works. It workson both 360 and ps3.
Download the demo of army of two accept ea's terms and conditions start game quit put mercs 2 back in and it should have sorted it but if not you need to borrow rent or buy the full game to get your problem fixed. This is the same problem as the freezing on the main menu.
your xbox is not the problem the game is because when ever the game is stuck the xbox is trying to read it so the entire xbox freezes trying to read it i would sell it at gamexchange and save money for a another one so stop trying to play it or your xbox will get red rings trying to read it or can try to get gamexchange to buff it for u or try gamestop trust me its happened to me
