Question about IBM ThinkPad T40 2373 Notebook

1 Answer

T40 hangs after boot up. Sometimes does not show anything on boot

My T40 thinkpad either does not turn on at all or after a few knocks boots and hangs anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes after boot up. The screen often flickers before it hangs. Seems to be a loose connection in the lower left corner? Knocking on the part makes the computer hang sooner. Please help.

It may be because of the cpu cooler is so full of dust that the fan cant go around and the cpu gets hot and the whole system freezes or something else is totaly screwed up

My ibm thinkpad t40 starts up but comes up with the message "initilazing intel(R) boot agent version 4.1.07 PXE 2.1 build 083 (wfm 2.0), rpl v2,74, what does this mean and how do i get windows 2 start

It means it's initializing its boot agent - most IBM have this feature. Press F1 on start up to go into the bios and then use the settings for start or boot up options to turn it off. If you simply wait - it will go away and windows will start normally anyhow when it is finished.

Will not boot... black screen?

Try removing the battery completely and powering it up on AC power. Sometimes a dead battery (even if you're plugged in to AC) will stall a boot-up in its tracks. If this doesn't help, please reply back and let me know if anything changed.

Problem of computer booting and hang

The solder balls to the video chip (GPU) may be marginally connected due to mother board flex. Search ebay for Thinkpad ATI GPU repair. A place by Chicago will fix the motherboard for $50.
